Fear the Note5 will follow S6 trend

So they are making a Note 5 with SD slot. I bet that Verizon is part of the reason no US variant has an SD slot. This is a very blatant attempt to see if people are dumb enough to buy a phone with small internal data and not SD slot and then be forced to use cloud storage, which of course means they will inevitably use more data than they would have had they been able to store data on an SD card. Also forces people to pay for more cloud storage when they might not have otherwise. Just a blatant money grab IMHO.

That and the main desire Samsung has to get the premium for less storage than sd would provide. 64GB in the sales mix is lot more money than selling just a 32gb with sd.

The catch is Samsung thinks sales will not be impacted by their decisions.

The thing is, the vocal minority of users (most of whom are here in forums like this) think sales WILL be tremendously impacted by not having a SD card. These discussions become echo chambers so quickly that it bears reminding that there is a much larger section of consumers out there than those who patrol these forums. Large phones are no longer niche, and most "normal" users of phones just don't care about SD cards, period. I do. Most here do. But general consumers absolutely do not. I think Samsung thinks most buyers won't care, period. I do feel for those who needed the SD card though. It isn't something easily compensated for, for those who rely on it.

The thing is, with Samsung opting not to even sell the Note 5 in Europe at all (for now anyway), sales will definitely be down overall, so it will be harder to assess the impact of this years' decisions. I suppose comparing US sales this year to US sales previous years, etc would have to be a methodology. I will be very curious to see how US sales compare to last year. I suspect they will actually be up. We will see ...

I have the Note 4. I'm getting the Note 5 , and I can't wait.

I went to T-mobile store today and I saw both of the new phones today.

It look like the same thing. Same size and feel. Now if you put the case on which most will do, then you cant tell the difference at all.

This is an upgrade that goes sideways and down. LOL

Its like when the Note first came out... Apple made fun of it for being so big and Samsung made fun of Apple for not having the removable battery and memory card.... Now Apple is big and Samsung took away the things that made it the best!!

In the beginning of 2011, HTC demonstrated a wicked tablet idea - a pen that mattered and did cool stuff - and released it a few months later.

And the pen sold separately for an arm and a leg - owners loved it but it failed, no one expected to pay extra for that.

A few later the first Note was announced and released another month after that.

When I think Note, I think pen.

What astonishes me is that no one has tried to compete with it. (And the few lesser me-too pens don't count.)
