Feeling naked

Ballymoss

Android Expert
I had an awful, hideous thing happen to me tonight; I went out for a couple of pints and FORGOT to take my Galaxy Note 2! I couldn't surf the Internet, check how my items were doing on Ebay or send texts to friends.
I felt completely naked as though I had gone back in time to 1975 when there were no mobile phones or internet.
Has anyone done this and how did they come to terms with it?
I thought about stealing someones phone but they were all Blackberries, Iphones and suchlike garbage and I decided I would rather suffer in silence.

Went back home & retrieved my phone.
Even if I'm out with other people, when one has realized they forgot their phone we just go back & get it...........then carry on as planned.

Got home from work and realised I'd left my phone in the works van, there was no way it wss going to spend the night on its own in an unfamiliar environment, I did the 10 mile round trip soon after :)

At our weekly meetings they make us throw our phones in a "bucket" for the Whole meeting! We can't even get them at lunch. I'm like someone could be trying to get to me?, anyone text?, what's new on the forum?, what's new on Facebook?, what app did I say I was gonna dl today? I can't take it I need my phone!!!!! Then I charge the bucket cause I don't want anyone to take my phone by mistake! I need my phone!!! Aaahhh

Wow, quite a few addicts here. :p

I must be doing something wrong. If I leave my phone at home, I just don't bother and just carry on. It's not the end of the world and it'll still be there when I get back. In fact, everything else will still be there when I get back, so why bother or stress myself out for such a trivial thing?

What do you mean"charge" the bucket? ?

I live in Australia and often go 4 wheel driving and camping, even some of our beaches do not have mobile coverage. Often we have areas where there is no mobile coverage for 50 miles. This is often the case when travelling in country areas.
So for me it is no issue & I enjoy the time of not being annoyed by people ringing or sending messages.

A friend who is a chef says he and his colleagues used to charge their phones at work but the boss BINNED the chargers!

Well you could make a similar argument for the days before there were ATM's? It might seem trivial but if you had to write cheques out again or find a bank to get some money it would get stressful.

I certainly don't freak out and panic like some of these addicts.
It'll be right where I left it when I get home and I'll respond accordingly to what or who ever wanted something.

Not really. That is not an 'addiction'. Which is what I was more referring to.

Unfortunately, there are people who are addicted to technology and what it brings. There have been studies with teens where they were isolated from technology (ie. Social media, text messaging, etc). The ones that were heavily into it experienced withdrawal symptoms similar to a drug addict.

My sister was addicted to the internet to the point where I had to lock her out of the sytems we had at home. She would sit in front of the screen hours on end and not even stop to eat! Thank goodness she eventually got better. It was not a pleasant experience when I did what I had to do to curve her 'addiction'. It is a problem and one I hope never to encounter again.

I'm attached to my Notes, but there's a time when enough is enough. Time for a walk and not have any tech with me. Just the company of my dog. :)

Or in my case my 4th child....always glued to me. I remember when my mother always used to nag me about my phone fetish.....until she got one. How the mocker has been humbled:D

The woman now has two phones and you would have to prise them from her cold dead hands. She is worse than me;)

What? No, no, no. You should be looking for 'Tamagotchi'. ;)

Remember when that was the craze?

LOL...I remembered people buying those up and thinking...well, at least it's not a real pet that will completely die when people are neglectful.

Anyhow, funny you mentioned that because I remember an article talking about it (because of the app that Bandai created) and I rolled my eyes wondering if people still do it.

It's happened less than a handful of times to me, but only left at home (never in public...knock on wood). I have too many things that I can't afford to lose on my phone. Luckily, I'm protected by several different fronts, including my IT department at work, but it's still a pain in the butt thinking of how much would be lost (beyond the value of the phone), should I ever forget it somewhere that's not my home.

I'm gonna save up for one of these BigDog Overview (Updated March 2010) - YouTube hopefully the 64GB version in white :car:

Nah. Would have probably settled with Sony's AIBO. Remember that commercially available little robotic puppy? LOL.

Drex, I shamefully don't need that app because I have the actual thing still sealed in its packaging. Though, I would hate to see the condition of its innards considering the battery probably corroded inside it by now. :p

Got smarter with my collection of things. Actually opening the box carefully, removing the batteries inside it and putting it back inside. :)

In all honesty though, I would have a major meltdown if I lost my phone more than anything else.
