Fell in Mall fountain, phone doesn't work...help!

Yeah. I saw that too. That is just a law suit waiting to happen. I can see the person suing the mall.

When I first saw the headline, I thought the person fell from some great height? I'm glad that the person wasn't seriously hurt.

I wonder if the phone still works.

LOL i think i've read somewhere you can open it up & use a blow dryer or something on the low setting to dry it out... hopefully this girl has heard of it too........

i suppose for some people it needs to be "Don't text & walk!"

i dropped my Nokia 5530 in washing up, so i cracked it open, hair dryered it out and left in hot press for a few hours
After two weeks apart from some patches of the screen, you couldnt tell it was water damaged

she should consider this a life's lesson. Bet she wont text and walk at the same time.

I bet she cant walk and chew bubble gum at the same time.

I can text while walking and see everything thats going around. This woman is dumb. Hope she dont sue me lol.

I'll just admit upfront that laughing at other people is a hobby of mine...but I laughed really hard when I saw this!!! Stupid Stupid Stupid!!! Hahahaha!

A colleague of mine dropped his cell phone in the ocean (beach) one time. This was an old analog cell phone in the 90's. An electrical engineer told him to open it up, take it apart and rinse it under fresh water (to get rid of the salt). Then leave the parts to dry for a few days before putting it back together. The phone worked after this process.

I'm not sure of how robust smartphones are compared to older cell phones. They have many more components that can be damaged and the circuitry may be more sensitive.

Water recovery has been discussed pretty regularly around here so I take no credit for this, but the proper procedure is:

1. Remove the battery
2. If in salt or very dirty water, rinse in distilled water, not tap water
3. hand dry visible components and DO NOT use a hair dryer
4. submerge in desiccant (dry white rice works great) for 24 hours

Done and done!!

Of course the water indicator strip is now fouled but that's another story.

I am loling at the people who thought this was a serious topic and that this really happened to the OP.

On another note it's disturbing that this lady is suing over this. What is wrong with our society that someone else is now responsible for your own dumbassery?

Well, if nothing else, it re-hashes what to do if your phone is submerged in liquid. My sister-n-law's phone got dropped in a tall glass of milk thanks to her young son. Maybe he thought it was an Oreo cookie :D

But as for the girl falling in the fountain, they were talking about it on the news a couple of days ago and I about died laughing when they reported that she was suing the mall! If you thought a lot of people watched it and laughed at you before...go ahead, create a lawsuit (that you'll never win) and bring 100 times the attention to yourself...BRILLIANT! I'm only wishing I could see a highlight reel of all her other wonderful blunders! Haha!!!

I've heard she has changed her tune somewhat and now just wants an apology from the mall. Clearly the mall is at fault. She was walking along minding her own business when the mall dropped a fountain with a three foot wall around it right in her path.

And Geraldo(the idiot) this morning said she has a case against the security people because they laughed at her.
Friggen idiot Geraldo can't seem to figure out the people that were laughing were people videoing the event from a monitor from a tape of the event....well after the event happened. Gees Geraldo use that brain.
The only case there is, is a case of unproffesionalism on behalf of the security in allowing the video to get on You Tube. That is it. Nothing else.

I disagree. Had they not uploaded the video to Youtube, we all would have been deprived of much laughter and that would have been a crime itself :D

She's worried about that? What about the poor guy in his suv masterbaiting and his friends on the third floor apt taped him then posted his name and everything. On the video. Now that's embrassment.

I really think it is funny she is thinking of suing. Before suit= some stupid anonymous chick makes an ass of herself, after suit = some stupid anonymous chick makes an ass of herself, then decides to sue, and become slightly famous for her stupidity.

Well at least they didn't upload the direct footage but recorded the monitors from a cell phone. Uploading security video directly probably would be grounds for dismissal. I read in the Consumerist that she actually worked at that mall. I would certainly upload video of my coworkers doing stupid stuff to YouTube if they wouldn't shoot me for it.

(No one values humor anymore.) It was pretty unprofessional, but the incident was very funny. I hope that the Berkshire Mall doesn't fill in all of its fountains now. :(

I laughed so hard when I saw this video. I LOVE videos of people walking into things. Glass doors are my favorite.

I can't believe she's suing the mall. The ONLY thing she MIGHT be able to get away with is making her look bad. What's that called? Defacing her name or something like that. That's assuming she doesn't get laughed out of the courtroom.

Yeah, it seems to be about being unprofessional and putting the evidence that you have no discretion on YouTube. She might get a couple of dollars, but not enough so that she won't have to work retail anymore. That's a small town out there. It wouldn't be such a bid issue if she didn't draw attention to it by threatening to sue. It would have blown over the same way the "In the butt" video did and she might be able to show her face around town in a couple of weeks or so. Oh, well now it's nationwide.
