Help Few questions

Hi.
i just bought galaxy not to long ago and i have few questions about it.

1. what root gives? why does it necessary?

2. can i upgrade my versionto android 2.0 some how? does 2.0 working faster than 1.5?

3. why cant i see things that cost money in the market?

4.can i enable multi touch some how? its annoying when the phone can detect only 1 finger

5. is there some other place to download games not from the market?
i mean games like guitar hero, rockband or taptap (the ipod game)
