Help Few very simple (stupid) questions.

Hello all helpers. I have few questions about rooting, got my phone few weeks back. I do not know much about rooting and stuff. I am happy with the phone. The only 2 reasons I want to root is remove the bloatware (to increase space) and to force install apps to SD (use apps like APS2SD). I read on forums that I will need superuser level to do all that. Few questions:

1. What is shabbymod? What I know is, it

1) shabbymod brings some features and snappiness missing from the phone on stock, with cwm out publicly i suggest you install that make a nandroid (backup) install shabbymod and see if you like it. if you dont boot into recovery and restore your old backup

2) yes rooting is separate from flashing :)

Thank you very much Shabbypenguin for quick reply :)

So basically rooting a phone to gain super user does not need flashing with shabbymod.

Few more questions:

1. Will rooted (not shabbymoded) phone be able to receive OTA updates?

2. Will rooting (not shabbymoding) void warranty? If yes then can the phone be easily unrooted?

3. In a rooted device (not shabbymoded) other than superuser level, will there be any other difference in the phone as compared to how it is now? (in terms of features and performance).

Thanks again for your help :)

Yes you will get updates still, however being able to apply them may be reduced if you remove certain bloatware that they would rather you keep.

Any modification can result in voiding warrenty, but you can use Odin and put stock image back on no problem.

In stock form the phone was a little laggy, and just not perfect in my experience. Rooting it does not change that, removing bloat will help though. Some of the shabby mod tweaks are all "under the hood" type that you will not see or notice, but the affects of them are very evident.
Thanks again for your help :)

For complete stock recovery.

Thank you very much.

Now my last question (i guess:) What is the safest method of rooting my device (to get superuser status) WITHOUT installing custom ROM like shabbymod?

please direct me to the right page. Thank you in advance.

Thank you very much Dandnj1 :)

I see the top post on that page by interdpth explains how to root.

Does that procedure just roots or does it also flashes shabbymod?

TIA

would not the odin unroot file flash the stock OS in my phone?

or it will just unroot?

Thanks again :)

[i am trying to keep it simple for myself, i like the stock OS, just want to know how to root (and unroot in case) to get superuser level. do not want to flash the rom]

At this time using odin to go back to unrooted, pure stock with everything that came with the phone and NOTHING that did not is the only method.
At one point shabby and interdepth had put out a one click unroot but there were some reports of bricking your phone with that so they pulled it.
and now with the odin unroot there really is no need for that.

I rooted my prevail. the one click root worked very well. Thank you.

Will the same one click root work on other android phones too? i am planning to root a mytouch 3g?

Thank you.
