Root Finally Going To Root

So I attempted to root this morning I believe it was successful, but when I opened titanium backup, it says root access fail... my first question is, is there another way to tell if I'm rooted correctly or not.

Second, where can I find roms and a guide on how to install 2.2 froyo? I tried searching the forums but it's a little to confusing for me. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks

BTW: I followed this:

forget that question, i just had to update busy box and now it says im rooted. now my next question, im running EA 28, is Android 2.2.1 / .32 kernels the update im looking for 2.2? do i just download the zip, put it in the root sd card, and then restart the phone holding down power button and volume rockers to install it?

i dont understand why i can't backup in rom manager. i used odin and click pda and chose the cwm. it was successful, but when i try to back up with rom manager, it says "failed to verify whole file signature".

also when i go to install a rom in rom manager, do i select both backup rom and wipe and delete cache?

any help guys? if anyone can even help me through messaging program it'll help a ton!

you have to actually boot into clockwork recovery first to verify that it works...or at least i would...and none of us (well most of us) dont use rom manager as its fairly pointless

when i do a reboot, i click on install update and i get the android bot with a explanation point, then it says the same thing, "failed to verify whole file signature"

i put the phone in download, i used odin and flashed cwm by click pda and selecting the cwm file, im not sure what im doing wrong. unless im flashing the wrong cwm file. i have the latest verizon build that was pushed.

ea28/dl09 have an issue with recovery that it gets replaced on boot

you have to download a custom kernel either voodoo or non and have it on your sdcard...put the phone in download mode...push cwr in odin...let it boot...then pull the battery and 3 button recovery to blue recovery....navigate down to apply update.zip with the home button...now u should be in green recovery or red depending on the version you push...go backup/restore and backup...then go to install from sdcard and flash the kernel you put on before...boot and you should be good

progress... tried installing this:
[ROM][12.21.12][SC 2.8 End of the World Edition]2.6.32 Voodoo and Nonvoodoo - xda-developers
2.8 voodoo version

got an error
"Amend scripting is no supported.
Amending scripting was deprecated by google in android 1.5
It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to clockworkmod 3.0 gingerbread based recovery.
Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zup packaged
Installation aborted.

Do I have the wrong version of clockwork mod or a bad update.zip?

sounds like you were using cwr 3.0 as that only supports edify update scripts

my advice? dont bother flashing cwr from rom manager...just push one of the older version and flash a custom kernel with it...you dont "actually" need to flash recovery from rom manager...in fact you dont need rom manager at all...i dont have it installed and 99% of the time i dont

can i use the cwm installation file titled: CWMRecovery_DJ05_DL09.tar.md5 even though im running EA28 or will i get bricked again? i cant find any other cwm installation file, thanks for all your help

That cwr is fine...just remember you will have to flash a kernel the first time you boot into it...or it will be replaced by stock recovery on the next reboot

okay, just to make sure I'm getting this right, here's what I'm going to do:

1) The phone is already rooted...
2) I already have a backup that I made with titanium backup
3) Using Odin, I'll flash cwm
4) Once I go into recovery, install the update.zip, then go to install from sdcard and flash the 2.8 voodoo...
5) Reboot

thanks again nitsuj17!

Just curious how u manage your backups without rom manager. Are we able to rename backups in cwr? Cuz that's all I use it for atm

What I used was titanium backup to backup all my files. You can backup all system files and apps and it saves it in a folder on your sd card... When I bricked it over the weekend, I flashed in odin the stock rom, rerooted it, download titanium backup, then restored it.

Just like nitsuj17 said, you really don't need rom manager.

Yeah, I use TB to back up apps and data too. You don't really want to restore system data though. That is what backups through cwr are for and seeing as I am totally flash happy... I have several backups that I need to keep straight. I name them through rom manager according to rom version, fresh install, with theme, etc.. That way I know what I'm restoring when and if I need to.

finally rooted... about to restore my apps, so I shouldn't restore system apps? I restore system apps will it brick or something since I'm running 2.2.1 now?

I think I just answered this in another thread ;):p but in short no you should be good to go, Its nandroid backups that are troublesome from 2.1 to 2.2.1
