Finally saw & held the Note

I've been pining for the Note since Sept and I finally saw one tonight in Costco. It really is beautiful and fast and what a great screen. You can imagine the eons of difference between the Note and my Blackberry Storm 2. I want to stay with Verizon because of LTE which the girl at the ATT store said would take about a year more to get here and I have no idea how long for the Delray/Boynton area in FL.

VZW will end unlimited data on 6/28 unless you get a new phone before that date. There is no Note to buy from VZW. Here's my question. I thunk I use my Blackberry a lot. I use two batteries a day and hardly for phone calls, mostly News, Twitter, Facebook and links from them. with all that use, my data last month as .1GB 1/10th. How is that possible?

I assumed that if I got the Note I'll be doing more on it than I was doing on my BB, thing for which I use my laptop. Given these stats, how could I ever go over a 10GB shared plan with my wife using hardly anything? 10GB would give me tethering otherwise a 6GB plan might be enough and may even be cheaper than our 1400 min shared plan with unl data.

So, is there something I am missing here about unlimited data? So Verizon, Watchya gonna do about a Note.

I have a 3 gb plan with AT&T and I don't get anywhere close to that limit. I came from blackberry as well. BBs compress data much better than Android so you won't use nearly as much on a bb as an android handset, but of course you don't get the beautiful graphics and displays. I was amazed how much data I went through in the first month just using the phone for business purposes--email, texting, phone,--and lots of internet browsing (but still only used about 2 gb, which seems like a lot when I never went over 200 mb for BB).

Also, I even tried the Easy Tether Lite app and ran the internet to my Macbook Pro for about 2 hours at one point (LTE was sweet!). With all this use I still was under 2 gb. But of course that was with no music or video streaming. I don't really do a lot of that. If you do you can eat through data at an enormous rate.

Yeah you would probably never get close to reaching your limit. Only exception being if you stream music alot I.e. Pandora or something like that. You can reach your limits pretty quick if you stream for 4 or 5 hours a day so be aware of that.

Mileage will differ between individuals. I have a 2GB data plan and I will always go a little over a gig with my usage. But I'm mostly on the internet and downloading files, documents, etc. I don't do any media either and this is being conservative with no tethering.

My son in law has unlimited phone and data on ATT on a blackberry. After 5 days he used 3.5 gb. He said they throttle him down after a certain point. I think he's tethering alot when he's away. My daughter in law says she's on the phone a lot with emails and the internet, while the baby is in school etc. They also have an Ipad, which the 2.5 year oild uses. One day they went into a restaurant and Mom looks at what the kid is doing. She went onto setting to look for a Wifi signal. My daughter in law said she couldn't stop laughing in amzement.

I went to a VZW store the other day to find out about the S3 and they know nothing there compared to you guys here. In any case I was looking at the Razor Maxx and did a speed test. It showed 27 mbs down and about 19 mbs up on 4G LTE. That's really something.

I wonder if VZW throttles back like ATT?

BoHarris and Neo, The speeds are so fabulous that things that were a pain in the ass to do on 3G may become effortless and ued more. I only use Pandora for jogging and walking for exercise. If I start to get excessive doing walking, jogging to Pandora, it will be a cheap way to get healthy.

The real question is will 10GB do it, given my wife will hardly ever use much. If I did tethering often and dl-ing lots of Net Flix and Pandora, it will go over. I don't know if they can make it uncoscionably epensive

I think with faster speeds, you will burn through data a lot quicker. I don't have LTE as my carrier doesn't offer it, so I can't really comment on it. I am on a flex data plan. If I go over my 2GB limit, I will be billed $10 for each addtional GB over. I don't know how your plans are down south (I'm in Canada). So maybe double check with VZW or ATT? We currently don't have any unlimited data plans here with the big wigs (Bell, Rogers and Telus). All are capped/flex plans with these carriers. I think other carriers offering unlimited do monitor and throttle connections if you use too much data. Not too sure though.

If you combine your data plan along with wifi, you won't go over the 3gb data package.. That's the plan I have and I don't even go over 2g..

AT&T is launching a new plan structure for Data.

Right now, I have 5 lines and I am paying $30/mo PER LINE for the grandfathered unlimited data.

For $17.50/mo per line, we will get 5GB of data, Tethering included and NO throttling. If we go over the 5GB, they just notify you and tack on $10 for an additional GB.

With this added benefit and the fact that we like the added tethering included, great deal for us since in the 10+ years we have had the account, we have only been throttled twice.

They will also be introducing a new set of pooled plans as well. Not interested in that, but I am sure details will surface.

Hope this helps.

I hope you're right cause this would save me a bunch of money.
