Root Finally taken the plunge into rooting...HELP!!!

Hi people,
FInally found the time to take the plunge and started rooting my Desire...i thought it was going well until now!

I think i am rooted after following the unreked method, i now have Superuser Permissions and the Ninja in the apps draw, however i thought i would now take a back up in Titanium.

So i installed Titanium Backup (the free version for now) and tried to take a backup, however when loading titanium backup i get the message "Sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application will *not* work! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and in cludes BusyBox, and try again"

What have I done?!?!?!?

Any help gratefully recieved as always.

when you start ti backup it should ask for root permission. a pop up should appear, give it root permission. click the problems button and will download busybox for you.

check you superuser app, to check if ti backup has root permission

Hadron/Rowlers,

Thanks guys, i should calm down a little bit and read what i am doing rather than waiting for something to go wrong!

Now happily backing everything up!

Thanks again

Oh damn!!!
So i did the titanium backup, then installed ROM manager and did a backup. Everything was going fine then the phone rebooted and got stuck in a boot loop.
I have read befreo about this problem so followed the guidance, went into ClockworkMod Recovery, selected backup and restore,
then selected restore and selected the backup i just took and got a screen showing
- No
- No
- No
- No
- No
- No
- No
- Yes - Restore
- No
- No
- No

whatever i do i seem to get stuck in a reboot cycle

Help!!!

done that danfrance just comes up with

"MD5 mismatch"

Something seesm to have gone a bit screwy!

Is it time to suck my thumb and cry like a little girl yet?

Not quite - as long as you can boot into recovery it's recoverable.

There's another thread here where someone had a similar problem: http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/236401-rooted-stuck-startup-loop.html . The OP hasn't told us whether (s)he got it fixed, but there are a couple of suggestions in there. The simplest is probably Rastaman's suggestion of copying teppic74's rooted stock rom onto the SD card and flashing that. As it is stock there should be no problem at all restoring your apps and data from titanium. You might not even have to do that - although wiping (factory reset) before flashing is always recommended, I flashed this rom from stock without wiping and had no trouble, so you could always try that, then if there is a problem go back to recovery, wipe and then reflash and use titanium to restore (you'll have to download titanium from the market if you do that, but your backup will still be on the SD card).

(Don't start by formatting your SD card! Or at any rate, don't do that without first copying its contents to a PC.)

Cheers HAdron,
I gave up last night and went to bed feeling rather disappointed in myself.
Now downloading Teppics Rom as suggested and will try flashing that to hopefully get some sort of life back into my phone.
Just hope i have not totaly messed it up!!

I think you should be fine. That's a good ROM - very stable, but gives you options of adding things on which aren't in the stock (but only if you want to).

I'm a little concerned that we've seen a couple of people with this problem in a couple of days. The "boot loop after first nandroid when rooting using unrevoked" thing is fairly common (though not everyone gets it - I didn't - so I wonder what the difference is?), but this bad md5 thing is nastier. OK, as Goldfinger said, once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, but if we get a third in rapid succession I'm going to suspect some new bug.

Looks like it might be terminal.
Have tried this twice and get the same error message.
Go inot recovery, then seelct install zip from sd card, choose zip from sd card, then select 2.10.405.2-inc-radio-v2-signed.zip, then yes and get the warning message
"cantopen /sdcard/2.10.405.2-inc-radio-v2-signed.zip (bad Installation aborted.

I assumed it meant it was a bad file so i have deleted the file, redownloaded it and still get the same.

Any ideas?

i'm now downloading leedroids Rom, none AS2d as i do not have a partition on my memory card yet.
ONce that's done i need to wipe the cache and try to instal it in the same way as i just have?

Sorry for all the questions guys, im in over my head a bit at the moment!

OK, we're getting into guesswork here.

You could try again with the version without the radio. If something is a bit dodgy I'd probably try to avoid flashing the radio anyway (it's a bit riskier than just flashing a ROM). However, I suspect that won't make any difference - we've had 2 unrelated files fail, so the obvious common factors are clockwork recovery and the SD card. So the next thing is to assume it's the SD card.

If you have a spare you could try putting that in the phone, copying the ROM zip onto it, and then flashing from that. Otherwise you could try copying everything off the card onto your computer (probably a good idea right now anyway) then formatting the card from recovery. Once that's done you could just copy your data back, but I'd be tempted to put the ROM zip on, try to flash that, and if that works then you can copy your data back and restore from titanium.

There were a couple of other suggestions in that thread, so you might want to see if any of them appeal, because as I say I'm now guessing a bit. My logic is that if something bad has happened to the card then formatting might recover it (but copy your data off first). If you have an adapter and can plug it directly into the computer rather than through the phone I'd be tempted to try that. You could even try "silly" things like taking the card out and reseating it - unlikely to work, but very little effort or risk.

Hadron i may just kiss you!!!!
Maybe early days but i put my original sd card back in with the leedroid rom on it and it now seems to be flashing.
If this works i guess i have lost my titnium backup which was on my new card but to be honest if i can just make phone calls i'll be happy at this stage.
Progress bar slowly creeping along..................

Fingers crossed very tight!

Bit worried that it copies files onto the card with no complaint but then can't load them. But if it's not the card we'll get into areas where I don't feel I know enough to suggest ways out.

it knows says welcome to leedroid 2.3 install from sd card complete.

Do i just back out a couple of screens and reboot the system?

Sorry go no confidence in myself all of a sudden!

I didn't know you could get a "welcome" message from recovery!

If you are still in recovery, if the install is done then back out if necessary (I'd have thought it would put you on the top page after flashing though) and select reboot. Sounds like it's done, but the message is slightly unfamiliar.

many many thanks hadron you are my saviour!!!
Just copying across the titanium backup that i had copied onto my laptop onto my original sd card then i will see what happens.
For now i seem to be up and running.
Many thanks again

sounds like your new card was a baddie

you need to send that back and give them hell

where did you get it from? what make is it?

it would seem something is up with the SD card then?

Is there anyway of testing it?

The card is a kingston 16GB class 6, bought from a seller on ebay.....i know sometimes they are dodgy but i ave bought numerous cards from the same seller who has a phenomenly feedback for a couple of years now and have never had this problem.
