Metro pushes the updates...

Pressing that gets you:

What if all this is Metro's doing???

True, but why are OTA updates always small? Because they are just an update for the bloatware! Who likes bloat? Metro :p Therefore, I conclude Metro pushes OTA updates... ;)

In my opinion firmware c is the best firmware because the battery last longer. I charged my battery today at 12am midnight and now I'm at 46 percent. I have tested all the firmwares and the battery sucks. I think we should all roll back to firmware c.

My phone is not rooted but I noticed that C was by far more efficient.

It booted up with less RAM used than any other OS.

Also seemed to use fewer background processes.

And therefore used less Battery.

Is using C safe with all of the themed roms? Right now I'm using colab v 300. Can I still switch to C if not which rom does it best fit?

Yes, Sepero found a way, can't find that thread though.
If you freeze or delete LGFOTAclient.apk in system/app you won't have any
update notifications. I'd Freeze it or rename it with a .bak extenion for
future use if you need it.

Yeah, so, I'm going to call BS on these nonsense claims about battery life being different between firmwares. I get WILDLY differing battery life from day to day; it depends on a lot of factors. At the bare minimum, you have to take into account:

1. How much did you use the phone that day? What did you use it for? What apps did you launch and what was running in the background?
2. Did you have synchronization enabled? Did you enable wifi/data/bluetooth? What were your brightness settings?
3. Where did you go that day? If you went anywhere with poor signal quality, the phone will amp up its transmission power to try to maintain the connection.

Nobody at LG is sitting there coding firmware updates and intentionally doing stupid things that will kill battery life. These are bugfixes, not radical changes to the power management system.

We should be more skeptical of anecdotal nonsense that isn't a product of variable-isolated testing. If you want to really show battery life properly, unbrick with C and CHANGE NOTHING, leave it sitting in the SAME PLACE until it dies, open and respond to the SAME NUMBER of text messages, etc., then do the same thing with F.

Precisely what I have done with C, E, and F. I have not had the time to fully test with D however. In all my tests, E had the worst battery life. F improved battery life, but C had the best battery life overall. C had ~18-24 Hours, while E and F had ~15-20 Hours. Some of my tests on E and F resulted lower. There where also more background processes on E and F, and more ram was taken up. Normally ~700MB of ram on C compared to ~600MB on E and F. Multiple people have reported this.

So before you call BS, please, get the facts....

This should explain why I choose version "C" all day every day,
till something better comes my way.
Stick to your guns 2g.

Version c
Tethering works. Version d too
At least an hour boost in battery time
Sound quality for music is slightly choppy when equalizer is on
Some issues with 3rd party videochat apps. Solved in d
Phazers are constantly set to stun.

Its not just bug fixes, alot of bits and peices are added in. :3Apps, memory management which can also lighten the load on the battery. You dont add a new graphics card to a computer without making sure it wont be an energy zapper, no?

No sh*t, I mean dude needs to look around at other device forums all of these manufacturers mess up software all the time fixes for one thing tend to break other things, the only devices I haven't had that issue on are Nexus devices because they are running with half the crap ware maybe even less.

Sent from my Nexus 7

I need a C Based ROM or flash able zip don't feel like getting on the computer and going through all the hoops maybe my only option though?

I stand corrected. Thanks for the input. Is there any place to see an "official" changelog for the firmware versions? I'd like to choose my firmware based on a combination of battery life and features/bugfixes.

I believe there is no "official" change log. Someone emailed LG regarding firmware D changes a while back and LG replied saying, IIRC, "This update is to add support for the LG home media system and fix bugs". I know for a fact that I am quoting LG wrong, but it was something to that effect.

*Most* OTA updates contain an update to Bloatware, an update to GAPPS, and possibly small bug fixes. However, updating via kdz contains the entire updated system ROM and firmware, and not just app updates. OTA updates usually cause more problems rather than fix them because, depending on connection, files can get corrupt and f--k with your system.

I saw the post where the guy emailed LG, and they told him that the update would improve compatibility with the latest network changes. That sounds suspicious to me, since you can update your PRL manually whenever you want, but okay.

Based on reading multiple threads it seems like most people get improved battery life on E. Any idea why that is?

An update can help with network issues, there is an entire partition for the radio, a partition for the baseband, and a partition for firmware.

Yeah they can update drivers and stuff.they can enable or disable features an functions.
Reroute or Increase or decrease voltage levels to parts. They have many options pn ota modifications.
