Root First attempt at rooting

hey, you guys, take a look at this: Soup or Root's Official Blog!!

there is the latest souproot 2.04 2.05 2.06, etc. up for download. So far, I've tried 2.04 and am now I'm trying 2.06. Had to run it twice now, still no superuser app in the list :( Will give it some more testing again tomorrow.

Be sure that everything extracts to c:\souproot folder, otherwise it does some weird sh$t...

I'm downloading the R910 source and am going to attempt to compile a clockworkmod kernel. See where we go :)

I can already adb shell to my phone then su to root thru my previous entries on this thread.

Just wished superuser worked with that Lightning. Its probably like ya said about permissions or verifcation that prevents its installation. But your work around was great for su. Thanks again.

Only trying to help. My work computer is downloading the 2.5gb source tree. Tomorrow ill setup a background compile to get a core compile then ill compile what samsung released. Once that finishes then I can work on getting clockworkmod in the kernel and hopefully someone can test it for me (can't flash and lose my phone and no second one to test on unlike some of you).

Ill test it out for you sir...will it be odin flashable?

anyone tested the new superoneclick v 1.7 that jsut came out? It reports success on all stages of rooting, including testing the su but root-required apps still fail to load :(

yep

super one click, z4, galaxy one click and among others....with no avail :(

ive been reading over the nexus s threads..alot of those guys seem to have the same issues we do
my only thing is i cant the phone into bootloader mode to try a few things

Just talked to a friend of mine who'd upgraded from 2.2 to 2.2.1 and can't root the phone ever since. he calls it a firmware-level restriction and his phone is not samsung. hence, maybe we should expand our search beyond our make/model that has almost 0 knowledgebase...

yes, I noticed. this is actually somewhat of the good news for us in terms of joining efforts. What do you mean you can't get the phone into the bootloader menu? did you get cwm going?

I've got the base froyo kernel compiled, roughly 60mb. Tomorrow ill get the froyo source that samsung provided compiled up. See what happens.

if you have the option to disable the boot lock in the kernel that would be awesome...from what im reading thats what triggers the lock

if you finish tomorrow hit me up, i have an indulge begging for a new kernel :D

there is a bootloader menu, recovery and download mode...if it has a bootload menu....all the other galaxys seem to have it

if its in bootload we can unlock the system lock which will allow us to root easily
