no update this morning:(
Location: Colorado Springs, CO
Device(s): HTC Droid Eris
Verizon Wirleless
8

just updated manually from the file posted on verizon's site. Downloaded to my pc running on bootcamp on my mac. Everything went well. The whole process lasted about 10 minutes.

I feel the pain like Moonsbabe. I did the same thing charged it up all night, woke up thinking i will have the update notification on my Eris and was disappointed. No update notification. I am in Dallas and still nothing as of 9AM.

How long is the update window?

December 11th until ???

How long until Verizon plans to have all Eris' updated?

All I really care about in this update is the fixing of the signal indicator and between 1x and 3G. Can folks verify that signal indicators (bars AND number value in menu/phone status screen not going in and out of 0 dBm) is fixed?

Thanks

mike

HTC Droid Eris – MR1 Software Release

New software (ROM: 1.16.605.1/Radio: 2.32.40.11.09) has been approved for the HTC Droid Eris (ADR6200); customers began to receive the software update notification Wednesday December 9, 2009.

Software updates for Android devices are deployed in three stages:

Stage 1: A limited quantity of customers nationally will receive the update on 12/09 & 12/10.
Stage 2: The next 48 hours will be used to ensure OTA success.
Stage 3: After the initial 48 hours, 200K customers per day will receive the update until all customers have received. The device does a 'check in' 2 times per day (in a 24 hour period).

Thanks! So it seems that most of us will see it this weekend at some point. If not all of us.

The way that I read this is that no one will get updates again until sometime Sunday. The stage 2 48 hour 'wait' period would be 12/11 Friday and 12/12 Saturday, then 200k per day starting on Sunday.

If that's correct, we can all stop looking at our phones and asking 'did you get it yet??' - at least until Sunday.

I have asked this also, someone responded that it fixed their switching in and out. I also need to know if it is a problem with my antenna because when i hold my phone sideways and my fingers are over the antenna the bars go down to 1 bar but when i remove my fingers they go back to 3 or 4 bars. When i went to verizon last night i put my hand over the antenna for the display model and the bars did not change and then tried it again with mine and my bars went down. Is this a weak antenna and should i exchange it?

Bump on the signal fix issue with the update, anyone know if stabilizes the antenna?

I did the manual update, and here are my findings:

*Battery is actually better IMO. After the update last night, I let it completely run out, and then gave it a full charge. Turned on my phone at 7:15 this morning, with several emails (push gmail & YMail checking every 4 hours), Facebook & Facebook Widget, Stocks Widget, Twitter Widget and about 10 Minutes of scrolling screen to screen (cause I cant put this freaking thing down for a month now), I actually have 94% Battery Life at 11:36 AM. This is a drastic change from before where my battery would show at 70% by 9:30 AM, then the slow drop from 70% to 30%, then the rapid decline to the end. This change seems to be due to the improvement in my signal, which went from -85db to -70db.

*The manual upgrade wipes the device, and starts fresh. I should have probably waited for the auto upgrade, but I figured with all the adding and removing I have done, it couldnt hurt. The device does seem smoother.

*Apps that start automatically seem to have changed....before, I wrote down that Browser, IM, Google Maps, PC Syncronization all were automatically running after a reboot, and I would usually go in and force stop as soon as my reboot was complete. Now, Google Maps and PC Sync are the only ones I do that with. Browser and IM no longer auto start.

*The amount of running processes seems to have declined as well. I use Toggle Settings, and have to use "End Process" a lot less.

Just my initial impressions

Yes, it did raise my signal levels by -15dbm in my house. Havent been anywhere else yet, but it does not jump anymore, and my battery is a heck of a lot better.

I just pulled the manual update, because the battery was killing me. It was really simple, not sure why everyone is complaining that they cant wait anymore, just download the official VZW MR1. Its posted all over the place on this thread.

So like if i just got my eris like today go ahead and do the manu update as i have nothing to lose right or is already done.

That's a great question. I would guess that they would sell through their existing inventory, which may or may not be flashed with the new update. Simply ask the rep if they could flash the device for you before you walk out because you dont feel like doing it - they should do it for you if they have the time.
