First Droid Eris update makes the slow OTA rollout starting tonight

Got my OTA update actually yesterday. I'm in San Francisco, CA. After the update and a full charge, I've noticed both battery life and signal! Good stuff! :D. Now this phone is definitely FTW! Can't wait for 2.0.

My update was waiting for me this morning when I got out of bed. It only took about 6 minutes to do. What I've noticed is that my battery seems to be lasting longer. I've used it much less in the last few days than I have today and I'm still at 50%. (Just got my Eris on Tuesday and have been playing around with it all day today.) I'm not too fond of the character counter in the text message box though but it's no big deal. Just a minor annoyance. All in all, I love my Eris!

Soo I was having issues with not being able to download MMS, and also constantly losing signal on my Eris (to the point where I had to restart my phone in order to GET service)... I called Verizon up and they told me it was actually a problem with my phone itself.. They told me to go to the store and get a new one, which I did. As soon as I got my NEW Eris, and set it up, it told me I had an update :-)

I installed the update, and so far I don't really see any changes tho. My bars still keep going from like 4 bars down to 1... But it still says 3G tho. And I haven't had the no-signal issue that I was having before, or issues with MMS being downloaded. Battery is about the same. No real changes.

Don't get me wrong... I LOVE this phone and it's the best phone I've had so far. Overall very happy with my Eris. :)

***By the way, North Jersey here.***

Just installed my update and the first thing I noticed was the battery meter is now more accurate than before. I installed the update with 57% battery life and after a restart it's now at 74% without me even connecting the charger!!!

The real test will be tomorrow morning after a full charge as my battery level in the past usually dropped to 90% within the first 30-45 minutes without me even touching the phone.

I'm asking the same question again...sorry. I work offshore and don't have a cell signal, but I do have wifi. Well I keep getting the notification to upgrade but I was informed(from this thread) that I need cell service for the upgrade. Is there any way to put the notification off until I return to land in 10 days? Or will it upgrade over wifi?

with a good backup, i had my phone updated and back to normal with all apps and layout in like 20 minutes...

Did the update fix the "no sleep" issue with the native text app? I am thinking of going back to that from handcent. And yes, my update came through successfully this morning!

Hey everyone, new to these particular forums....I have the Eris and have been following this thread. I have the Eris and my brother has the Moto Droid, we both have received our respective updates but the signal on the phones are quite simply unstable.

Before this update, my phone would have one rollercoaster of a signal. It would jump around from 1 bar to 4 bars, to 0 bars, to 3 bars, to 0 bars, to 1 bar, etc. After this so called fix, it still does the same thing. My brother has the Moto Droid and his has its update as well....does the same thing. The vast majority of places I now go, I have 0 bars (3G), the decibel reading is at 0. I dropped to 1X several times last night while at a store. I don't understand what is the problem here with these Droid phones? Why can't they have stable and GOOD signal. Right now, I'm at home where I know to have excellent signal (4 bars) or 5 bars when I had my Storm 2. I got 0 bars, sometimes it will show 2 bars. The W755 that is on my account has full 1X and full 3G signals. There is something wrong here. Any input from anyone?

My Eris does the same after the update. Although, I haven't noticed any service issue when on a call. Maybe it's a software glitch? I don't know.

I seem to think that as well. Its quite frustrating. Your phone will want to work harder to try and search for the signal when it thinks it doesn't have it causing the battery to drain faster too.

so its 1042 am here on long island and still no update. i know that its being sent out in spurts but come on, if verizon knows how many customers have the eris, shouldn't they just send the update out to all those who have it at one time?

I woke up to the Update this morning when I first unlocked my phone at about 9am. Ran successfully. Bronx, NY

Could I have done the update and not know it?

No alerts for me yet. However yesterday I did the *228 (??) thing and it said "press X for download" so I did. It only downloaded for like 30 seconds and then said, "complete, goodbye".

The slider still works the same.

No, the update we are talking about is very obvious.

A large notification shows up on your screen saying it is ready to install an update. You can either do it right then, or choose to do it later.

Once you kick off the update it take about 5-10 minutes to fully install and your phone will reboot many times while it's installing.

*228 has nothing to do with this update.

You will get it eventually, not everyone has gotten it yet. It may take until mid-week for most to get it.

If you go to Menu -> Settings -> About Phone...you can scroll down to Software Version. If the version isn't 1.16.605.1, then you still have the old one...1.12 something.

*228 is only for the PRL, which is like a list of towers near you.

There's a *22X which is for updates.

Yes guys, I realize that there will be a big notification. I just wanted to make sure that I didn't pre-empt that by trying to force the download.
