follow me on this one. i got my LG Ally about a week before the DX launched last summer. alternately loved and hated it (it's vastly under-powered), but decided to make the jump to the X via eBay. trolled the auctions for about a week before snagging one to the tune of $190.
got my DX about a week later, and as some of you may already know, it had the random reboot issue. played with it for a couple days to see if i could fix it myself; wasn't happening. so i took my defective unit into the local Verizon (corporate) store where i usually do all my business. one of the techs took a look at, watched it go through the reboot cycle a couple times, monkeyed with a couple things and then admitted defeat just like i had. his exact words were: "we don't keep replacement units in the store, but i can have one shipped out to you in a couple days, free of charge."
i don't know how i kept my jaw from dropping all the way to the floor. that particular unit had only been activated on my account 48 hours previously. they have to know that, right? i got jobbed on eBay, and Big Red was gonna make it right. all told, i spent less than $200, about 30 minutes in the store, and 2 days later i had a brand new phone that works perfectly.
i've spent a lot of time griping about VZW and some of their practices, but when it comes to service, they're pretty hard to beat (most of the time). i've been thinking about switching to Sprint when my contract comes due in a year, but this made me re-think those plans a little. plus, the reps at my local store are awesome. i can honestly say i've never walked out of there unhappy; a little peeved maybe, but that's usually because of corporate policy, not the guys and gals in the store.
