First Impressions and Questions Thread

I can now report the stock Moto music app is pretty sweet. Downloaded the drivers on my laptop, hooked up the Photon and it open like iTunes. Added my playlist, sync'd them in 3 minutes. Plays awesome, sounds awesome, it even displays the lyrics while the song is playing. Im highly impressed with this feature.

Also, when listening to the music and your phone goes to the black screen, when you go to wake it you can change the song on the lock screen without having to unlock it first. Pretty cool.
 
I gotta say im LOVING this phone!!! Think i might even actually sell my Evo 3D!! Did anyones phone come with a micro sd card? I didnt see one cuz it came and i had to leave for work right away. So good thing i had a spare 16gb im just using that
 
Really interested in this phone as an upgrade over my EVO. Can anyone confirm if bloatware can be deleted? Everything I find seems to lead back to the EVO 3D, as it was the first phone from Sprint that allowed deleting without rooting.

I don't mind Sprint Zone. I just hate NOVA, Nascar, Qik, and all that other nonsense that I remember on my EVO before I rooted it.

As I mentioned in the other thread today, you can watch videos and keep the phone being charged (plugged in) by turning the phone on its side where the charging port is on top. see image below.

I tried that. It won't do it with video. It also won't do it with netflix. It works on music and files and even youtube though.

Someone try to play a video file or netflix video and let me know. Thanks.

My apologies, you are correct, it will not right itself up while playing netflix (bad programming on their part) It works for you tube videos though as shown in my pic above.

Edit: btw I thought I read in one of the reviews today that one can connect to iTunes and play music or something to that effect. Can anyone confirm this?
 
I have the apk for the new market but im wondering if i should just wait for the update. Man im really loving this phone though!! And figures! The day i get my Photon the 3D gets f@#$$# s-off root!!! Lmao! I still got my 3D but from just a few hours with this it looks like this will be my daily device!!

Yes u can uninstall MOST bloatware, for some reason u cant uninstall sprint mobil wallet but mostly everything else you can.

OK, it seems most people think that the screen sucks. Is it better or worse than the Epic? The one thing I like about the Epic is the screen.

If the screen really sucks may have to reconsider this upgrade.

There is no need to. None if us can possibly test every aspect of phone on its first day of release. I think a software upgrade will solve the problem in the future so I'm not too worry.

I dont get why people are saying the screen sucks! Are these people putting a microscope to it? Lol I personally think the screen is alot better than both Evos which i have also but thats just my opinion.
 
Does the stock messaging app compress pic messages like the stock messaging app currently does for the EVO 4G? Example on my Evo I have it set to have 2 MB limit but if i take a picture and send via mms itll compress it to something like 14 KB always much smaller than the limit set.. Also test incoming pic messages as well if you can to see if they to are compressed..

- Use 4G similar to how you would use wi-fi (turn off when not using).
- Turn off GPS if you don't need it (weather and location apps usually can take information from 3G - I didn't find this out until recently)
- Set display to 30%, not auto (unless you need it on auto)

I can't figure out how to turn off auto sync. I don't want facebook contacts on there. Just my phone contacts. Also, when I set up a social media thing,it won't let me set up another, like facebook AND twitter. Same thing with my email. This is 100% due to my ineptness, but still

This is actually pretty simple on turning off auto sync. Click on the little square on your home screen that pulls up all of your apps go to Settings than go to Accounts. From here you can select gmail and uncheck the sync option. You can also add another account such as twitter or facebook.

To Remove facebook contacts it's also pretty simple. Again click on the little square to pull up your apps. Choose contacts, hit the far left button on your phone that has the four little squares. This will pull up more options, choose the "display options" and select facebook, simply uncheck "all contacts". This should remove your facebook contacts. You can also do the same for gmail.

Also just to add I think to stop they sync of facebook just click on the social media widget (what shows your facebook contacts are saying on your home screen) hold down on it until you see a little trash can at the top, drag it to the trash can. This will not delete it forever it will simply stop it from running and syncing all the time. I would suggest hitting the square on your home screen to pull up the apps find the "social networking" app click and hold on to it and place it on your home screen. Then you can just open it when you want to.
 
Since all of you seem to be so nice and willing to help this tech illiterate, how in the heck do I set yahoo messenger on the phone so I can get messages and send them easily?
 
i have had many many many phones in my time .....but this phone deff takes the cake. i dont know what else i could ask for . Great job motorola ! i am officially yours! until the next best thing . ( i hate commitment) lol. but really, this phone is great and i couldnt be happier with all phases of the photon. great camera , screen, kickstand , speaker,signal,speed ,custumization,feel,weight,battery life, wifi connection, i even really lovin g this Blur ( or whatever they wanna call it now )

I don't know, maybe it's me, or I'm getting too old, or a combo of both and much more, but I really do not see any problem with the display. (Unless you really get up close and if you do the view on the display is the less thing one has to worry about) lol

I have a 1:1 macro lens on my SLR so I figured I would take some close ups of the screen. I can see the checkerboard pattern with the naked eye, especially on a gradient. It's not a deal breaker for me though. The image is underexposed to prevent the pixels from bleeding into each other. These are the same image, just different crop levels.

Just simply hit the market app and search for Yahoo Messenger you can then download the official Yahoo Messenger app. I've never used it though since I don't use Yahoo Messenger, but I imagine after that it's straight forward enough for a tech illiterate old fogie such as yourself :p

Yea I have young eyes and it doesn't bother me one bit....I only noticed because I had to stare at a single point and force myself to see it. To be honest I think the screen is great it has an awesome amount of brightness to it and if you come from a stock Evo the battery is excellent for the brightness.
