Root first time poster, need help with evo 4g

alzsuprmn

Newbie
Please excuse my grammar or lack there of, I have stared at this screen for three days.

I have two evos the first i followed all videos and forum chat, and i found a nice gb cm7 rom works fine i rooted with revolutionary. first flash put my phone into cyanogenmod7 bootloop. i went to forums and youtube fixed. tweaked reflash perfect.

now i have my daily use evo (the first was a backup phone, i didnt want to brick mine on the first try) i started to root tells me i have 2.3.5, hboot 2.18 cannot use revolutionary. so i went to the guide for dummies. which was very helpful to a point. Now for a list of things i have done.

i rooted my phone, i tried to change hboot to 2.15 so i could use revolutionary again, failed 3x, so i went with hboot 2.10 successfully, i also had bootloader unlocked s-on - then locked again - then unlocked s-off - then removed watermark. then after all of that i managed to freeze my phone somehow. battery pull to reboot. could not access recovery. so i installed root checker - sorry no root. thats when i unrevoked and contacted the captn.

now i have a aokp rom i wanted to try thats what froze my phone the first time. i tried it two more times and thats what i have now aokp ics on htc evo 4g.

my problem is, i dont know how i did it. i heed someone to walk me through the steps again. i read the dummy guide and got to where it said thats enough reading lets get rooting and then it all went to crap. i guess i need a dummies guide to dummy guides.

sry ocn i accidentally flashed an ics rom aokp. i played with it awile nice but way to many fcs and screen glitching. and i didnt care for the unicorn. so i used unrevoked went back to 2.2 my original was 2.3.5 i think with 2.18 hboot. so i used the PC36IMG zip that i had went back to 2.2, then i had to unrevoked to root again that gave me superuser again. now im stuck trying new roms but, every time i do the wipes and then rom zips, i get about four lines in then it aborts the rom flash. then i have to reboot my phone into 2.2.

i also went from 2.2 into the rom manager pro and i downloaded the cyanogenmod7.2.0 from rom manager, then pop up for data and delvik cache wipe clicked ok and bingo cm7.2.0 flash good. but i have cm7.2.0 on my other evo and im still playing with it. but i want to flash a stable or usable ics rom preferably not cm they are great which everyone comments about but i would like to try someone else out.

my other phone was htc evo 4g hboot 2.15, i used revolutionary and it was so much simpler i can flash new roms as fast as i can download them to sd card but this is an unactive parts phone.

i dont know what im missing but there has to be a step in the whole proses that im missing. and like i said before, the dummies page confused me. not because im to dummy, but that im to new at this. i thought if you wanted a new look you bought a new phone.

Ok update: i just let my phone update and reboot from the PC36IMG zip. then i ran unrevoked again for root. that gave me cwm recovery 2.6.0.1 i think, anyhow i then installed linda manager from market. then rom manager pro. i then opened rom manager, at the top it let me flash cwm recovery. that gave me for the evo 4g 5.0.0.6, then in rom manager i select download rom. from list i chose nitrous os v1.6.3, again this time i select backup and wipe cashe and dalvik. press ok this went through the backup then the wipes and flash. success.... and wow i think i will try this rom out for a minute. i still need to know how to search the web find a rom(which i have perfected, i think), and get them to flash to my phone. thats the problem i have, is flashing roms i download to my comp. it works fine for my hboot 2.15, just not this one.

ok you really need to read this guide:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html. it has tons of info.

now DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER. it is way to buggy and does not wipe well. never let an app flash roms for you. do everything manually in recovery. also ditch clockwork mod recovery as it also does not wipe well. i would recommend that you use amon ra 2.3 or smelkus as your recovery. the guide has info on how to switch recoveries. i would suggest that you do. the guide also has instructions on how to flash a rom as well.

and i'm not sure how you accidentally flash an ics rom. LOL

best place to go for roms are over at EVO 4G Android Development - xda-developers

or
HTC Evo 4G ROM Development

we even have our own list:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/284413-roms-kernels-download-page.html, but that one needs a little work which i plan on doing shortly.

but to re-iterate DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER. get to know your recovery as you never know what may happen and that is all you have.

i went to the dummies page, its using revolutionary which is for, GB 2.3.5. hboot 2.15, i used the first guide that has my phone stuck at FROYO 2.2 hboot 2.10. This page you are sending me to, is telling me to use a different guide, the unrevoked guide and thats the one thats got me stumped. And i accidentally flashed aokp the reason it was an accident is, when i went into recovery and flash from sdcard the proses was aborted, even after several attempts. so then i think i renamed the zip to PC36IMG. then i rebooted my phone thinking i would start over, and i was shocked i had aokp ics rom. i just dont remember exactly how i did it, because i cannot get it back.

ok to be safe what is your hboot? do you have s-off? if so then you can still use the guide just skip the rooting part and go to the after root section. it has tons of info that should explain on things like switching recoveries and flashing roms.

and lets slow down and start with one issue at a time. so if you have clockwork mod recovery then lets work on getting that switched to amon ra 2.3. go to the switching recoveries section for instructions.

once that is done then report back and we can work on how to flash roms and such.

ok i flashed amon ra 2.3. i did a nandroid backup. copied backup to my comp.then i flashed zzzvr superwipe zip. i flashed superwipe then wipe cache, dalvik, and data. then i flash rom, failed again as usual.

which roms is that? what size card do you have?

ok i read the (bad) as bad so i found a new one i use an 8gb card so i deleted the zip found a new mazwoz and two others to try and i flashed from zip againit said complete. i am going to reboot now

ok i found my way thanks a ton ocn, and finndo i did flash a mikmik and yes it will be my fall back if i cannot find an ics. it is a very smooth GB. I tried gidital karma 777 or something and again was aborted. i also liked the miui rom but on start up i went to check camera and went into loading loop so i flashed another rom.

I am looking for a cm 9, which i think the dirt team had but i cannot locate the actual dl link. but i will try the one ocn posted as well.

ocn i have the strike rom you posted. it is great just one problem. every popup notification for example, blah blah blah pess ok or cancel whatever i press, the box stays on my screen in a very very slow fade away. any thoughts.

someone else just had that issue but cant remember who is was?!?!?! I'll try to find it

I did fix this issue I reflashed the rom that didn't fix it. But when I reloaded my backups from mybackup pro, I did not install the system settings backup. I think that the settings from my old rom were gumming up the works.
