Help FIX for screen creak (No tools required)

Damn, and I just linked to your post for another member as it looked promising.
Maybe some extra heat would do the trick, but still. I'm absolutely sure that this is a major defect in the black screen bezel. I thought that the rise was only caused by extreme heat in a UPS truck, but this happened in a 75 degree room.

I have taken the back off and messed around again.
I am satisfied that the creaking is indeed down to the plastic tape thing as mentioned here.

As for the screen lifting, I unscrewed ALL the screws and tightened the one where it is lifting while pressing the screen in the area of the screw.
I then tightened the ones either side, still holding the screen against them.
The I tightened all the rest.
It's about 36 hours since and the screen is still in place a feels solid with no movement.
That is after a fair amount of use and a full charge.

So I'll wait and see if it keeps holding, otherwise it will have to go back :'(

Well I called in for an exchange. Very helpful guy was impressed by my efforts to fix the screen lol. At this point I would suggest that anyone who has the screen lift just do the exchange with the Play Store before you have to go through Asus because they only pay one way shipping. It's really no sweat off your back to do an exchange since you can keep the defective one until your new one arrives. Heck even the return shipping is paid by Google.

I followed the instructions here to the letter (after being assured by Google that I wasn't voiding my warranty), and haven't had a single issue since. I did use a HUGE book (OED Unabridged), and I left it on there through 2 full discharges, though.

Well I'm glad that it worked for you :). I got about 48 hours before mine came up again though. Maybe yours will be different. Let us know

whats the story if i bought my nexus throught a brick and mortar store? Should i call asus since i didnt purchase mine from google play store?

I bought mine from a real store, albeit from their online department.
Phoned them and they said I can take it into a store for instant replacement or refund. I'm just waiting for them to get stock.

Guy I spoke to said the screen problem is a known issue and a lot of people are bringing them back.
I'm still getting another one though :-)

Well I'm disappointed that so many people have this issue. At least the play store is doing it right (Free shipping) Now we see how many people get screwed over by Google saying that our "defective" units are ok! :D
I'm not too worried about that though. You could probably profit from selling the extra tablet on Craigslist. Some people are willing to trade new tvs for them lol

That was a slight concern for me which is why I'm doing my exchange through a "real" store. If they ever get any more damn stock, that is.

Yeah good luck with the in store stock  Someone on here said that a store said something about September 30th

Yea, they told me 30th July but now saying 10th August but I have a feeling that might change again :-(
Looks like I might have to go the play route after all.

Well you're not going to be able to use the play store to do an exchange if that's what you're saying. Asus would be your last resort for a warranty repair. I just don't trust them. They seem reluctant to honor their warranties based off what I've seen from other owners

Ahh, I was assuming anyone could do returns through play.

Ho-hum.

I've owned a good number of Asus products ranging from cases to netbooks to video cards to motherboards, and in my experience they're very decent on honoring warranties. I've sent back a pair of video cards, a motherboard, and a case for repairs and never had an issue. The motherboard was even out of warranty and they fixed it with no hassle.. Of course, they wouldn't cross ship a replacement because it was out of warranty, but I got the same board back with a replaced north bridge free of charge (well, I had to pay shipping)

Always good to hear another perspective. This is my first Asus purchase so I didn't really have any personal experience with their products first hand, only stories. Oh btw Jay, how well is the glass sticking down?

Not a single issue, and this thing has had VERY little downtime... Thanks for the fix!

Well, whatever holds down the left side on my screen has completely failed. The creak may be gone, but there is a new popping sound from the lower quarter of the left edge. How long until the screen comes off lol

So now I am sending back my Nexus 7. I thought I could live with it but it is getting worse. I tried fixing to no avail. Hopefully my replacement is spot clean!

Got my replacement minutes ago and it is flawless. No flicker, dead pixels, lifting, or creaking. All is as it should be and hopefully it stays that way. I really hope for the best.
