Help Fix for the USB charging issue with non data power source?

Newbie
My Ally will charge fine with the original cable and AC adapter provided. Same cable will charge the phone on a computer if the drivers are installed. But using the same cable on my usb/cig adapter just quickly discharges the battery. From what I've gathered, this is an issue with Froyo that requires some kind of data being transfered. With all my searching, I've found some older references to hacking up a cable to short the two data lines together and another thread that said LG was aware and preparing a software fix.

Before I go hacking a cable, is there a software fix or battery app that will fix this for me? Or is it time to get out the wire strippers?

Thanks for your help,

I had the same issue with one of the chargers that just had 2 usb ports that i hooked my cable into, and with a friends car charger. Then with a charger i had gotten from a friend with another phone, it charges just fine. Not sure why or how. But with the right piece (peice?) you can charge in the car fine. Maybe hooking those lines together will work. But personally id rather buy a car charger.

A small resistor soldered to the Data+/- wires will fix that up. It varies among cables.

I have an old motorola evoke charger cord, its micro usb and charges the phone just fine. It was actually quite funny because the evoke and other motorola phones pretty much tell you to piss off if you dont use a motorola charger but you can charge this phone with pretty much anything. I bet you could plug a couple of wires into a cactus and a lemon and charge this thing. Although the ac motorola charger charges the phone faster if you wifi tether it heavy usage like downloading 100gb or more from verizon(ooops he he he) then it still overheats the battery and discharges until it hits zero and then bootloops(at least for me, it seems the cpu usage lowers if i overclock and it does hold up longer, but if i download heavy with steam it still shorts out). I dont know about soldering resisters onto my nice phone but if they do release a software update, hopefully its incoroporated into a new rom(if Death2all110 and the dev team decides to gives the gift of 1.2)
