Root [FIXED!!4-12]Root+recovery on 4.1.2 without downgrade

This is an Odin One-Click package for anyone who already has the 4.1.2 OTA and wants to root or have custom recovery. If you are still on LH2 see my other thread here for how to upgrade and stay rooted. Again this is only for people already on Jellybean MA1.
DO NOT attempt to use this on ICS as its only the system and your phone will not boot. In addition to the pre-rooted jellybean system this will also flash the LH2 bootloader which will let you flash a custom recovery without getting the unauthorized software message due to the locked bootloader. The old bootloader has no effect on system or data and there is no downside to using it. If you don't know why you need a downgraded bootloader READ THIS POST. This is a preloaded odin package in a compressed zip so extract before using. Put your phone in download mode, plug it in and click start. Its recommended that you have this open before you plug in. The small box will turn yellow and show COM:any number to indicate that it detects your phone. This will take 10-15 minutes to complete. This will not touch data.

THIS WILL NOT WORK ON THE LATEST ME1 OTA. DO NOT ACCEPT THAT OTA UNTIL I GET THIS UPDATED! !

NOTE: There are a total of 4 modifications made to this that differ it from the stock JB system.
-First one of course is root.

-Second, Verizon Remote Diagnostics has been removed (Really, what part of this looks like the big red needs to be involded here)

-Third, the media folder (ie power-on sound, ringtones, notifications etc) has been replaced with the one from the galaxy s4. Most sounds are the same. Only a few are changed.

-Last, Galaxy note 2/S3 Premium Suite Popup browser is pre-installed.
All in all, mostly shit that will go unnoticed if you choose not to use it

Did u do it with the phone in DL mode? Did it have a green progress bar while you were running it. Did the phone reboot when it was done?
 
yes, yes, and yes. to put it in dl mode i held down the volume down button during boot. is that correct? i tried the root again and it didnt work

I will double check it but it should be rebooting with root already present. You should not have to do anything extra
 
I had the same result. Everything installed perfectly but when i ran Titanium backup it says I do not have root. I had my phone back to LH2 and did 4.1.2 update, then installed using your one click solution and no go. Thx for all your work Billard412!!! :)

sry to anyone who downloaded. somehow the permissions got screwed. su is in there just unable to be seen. New upload in progress. Will be good in a few mins
 
after running this, i am unable to use wifi or send picture messages.
when sending messages it gives me a low data message. i have 1 gb free. it allows me to take pics, just not send them.
 
update, flashing back to the first file uploaded so i can keep my data, but get wifi back. will tell if it works

I dunno if this is just me but when I go into Titanium and try to delete apps like Amazon stuff...it goes thru the motions and says its uninstalled but if I restart Titanium they are there again. Gonna try some experimenting this weekend and see what i come up with.
 
Just wanted to also confirm that WiFi no longer can be enabled on my device after rooting.
It was turned off before I rooted it if that helps.
No WiFi and of course no mobile hotspot.

I also downgraded to the old bootloader as suggested if that helps even further.

I am not 100% sure where to find a trusted stock ROM for the Stellar.
Anyone have any links to share pointing to a stock ROM and instructions?
 
You can get all the files you need for this if you follow the link Billard412 posted above. His one click solutions seem to have a better success rate than just using Odin and a downloaded file.
 
if you are on the share everything plan the stock tethering is free. i would like a link to the stock rom also. i thing im going to flash it and bring it back to verizon if that doesnt fix it.
 
Billard, I don't have this phone anymore so I just saw this topic. The wifi issue is more than likely a symlink problem. If you take a look at one of my ICS roms and look at the install script, you'll see where I create 2 or 3 symlinks at the end. I had to do that because the links weren't preserved when I flashed system. The wifi driver was one of the things affected and the symptoms were the same as I'm seeing here. More than likely they've done something similar with JB. It would be easy enough to flash a quick script that'll create those links without blowing away anything else.

Thank you. Something I thought was covered but I guess the symlinks didnt hold in the dump. I haven't had the device for this and these dumps are being made using a sprint note 2 so thanks for bearin with me. So Op is updated with what should be the fix. And please if you havent already DO NOT return your device to vzw over this. Returning the phone is only justifying the bootloaders being locked in the first place.

And for those trying to tether. I promise the JB update across TONS of phones broke foxfi. To do it. First head to the playstore and update supersu. Then download and install busybox. Then head here http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390195663897100312 and use that apk. In the settings change your device to galaxy s3. Uncheck disable wakelock at the bottom. Do not use encryption or touch any other settings.
