Root [FIXED!!4-12]Root+recovery on 4.1.2 without downgrade

I did this and it worked perfectly. At first, the app wasn't recognizing my phone, but that was because I was using a crappy cable. Once I swapped cords and it recognized it, I clicked start and now my phone is rooted :) thanks so much for this!

btw, anyone have a list of what apps are safe to delete? I deleted Amex and the Calendar app that came with the phone, but I was just curious if there was a list compiled somewhere of all safe-to-delete apps, at least better than the list in the main thread, because that list just seems like an incomplete ICS list. For example, the contacts app that came with the phone, in favor of an AOSP contacts app. I wanna get my phone as close to google stock as possible. also, recommendations of root apps to get would be cool too ;D

If you get titanium backup you can freeze apps to see if deleting them will hurt anything. I personally would keep the stock messaging app unfrozen. The messaging apps I have used seem to not receive all messages without it. If you don't use voice messaging or dialing or anything S voice is nice to uninstall cause it's huge. Same with S suggest unless you use that for something... I'm not sure what it does haha

As far as root apps, titanium backup for sure, greenify is nice, root browser lite, cpu tuner if you're into that sort of thing... DO NOT use clockwork mod for recovery, it's not very Stellar friendly. Use goo.im to install TWRP

Do you have TWRP or something to completely back up the phone? I'd do that... and do a full backup.... then, using Titanium Backup, start freezing stuff you don't want/need. Keep feezing apps until you break something. :) No worries, you have a full backup!

A bunch of the crapware doesn't take up a ton of space though, no harm in leaving it on the phone. What you DON'T want is that junk to run and get in the way.... TB is a good way to keep those around.

its corrupt. Redownload it

I did and it worked! I made my own hardware key to get it into upload mode - all worked flawlessly.

OP Thank you SO MUCH FOR THIS I already spent many hours lost in the "root stellar" on this issue and you saved me possibly dozens more.

THANKS

I've been trying to figure out how to root this gosh darn phone for MONTHS. I could never quite get anything to work. Finally, I came across this page.

And I had some ******ed difficulties because I didn't realize I was missing my phone drivers on this pc.

Wham, Bam, Bada-bing-bada-BOOM.... That square turned yellow and now I'm rooted.

Thank you so much for all your hard work. It is so greatly appreciated!

I keep getting "unfortunately system.android has stopped responding" every few secs... what should i do?
Sounds like you either attempted to use this on ics or a custom rom. Run my lh2 one click here to get back to stock ics. Then take the ota to jb and use the one click in the op of this thread

I noticed that there is a new software update for the phone from Big Red today...it'd be wise to not install it, correct? Thanks!

Yes.... first, it'll puke all over your phone if you've messed or modified it in any way... Secondly, without knowing exactly what is in that update, its dangerous. It might just be some fixes, but it also might be some nasty bit of low-level stuff designed to lock it down even further... to the point where you can't do ANYTHING to it, like back-rev'ing the bootloader to ICS so you can run customer recoveries... or something like that.

I would wait until someone knows what's under the covers... I am dreading it to be honest... I've rooted, loaded the ICS bootloader, have TWRP loaded... So I would have to load the JB boot, hide root and put the stock recovery back on, and it MIGHT update... Or just reload the stock JB image totally... which I DON'T want to do, I got my phone running to where I want it and don't want to go screwing around with things to get it back to this point.

OK LISTEN UP.
The update IS safe.
With that said, it will most likely fail if you used my root method in the op. I have an updated root method for the new update uploading now. Here is the steps to get the OTA and keep ur shit intact.

1)Do a nandroid backup of ONLY data in twrp.
2)Backup your entire internal storage to pc
3)Revert back to ICS using my one-click here (this will wipe internal storage)
4)Accept all of vzw's updates all the way to the new ME1
5)Flash my new ME1 one-click here to root it
6)Flash the old bootloader here
7)Download goo manager from the play store and use it to reflash TWRP
8)Put all your stuff back on your internal sd and restore the data nandroid from step 1

Thats how its done bitches. With that said the new update doesnt seem like much but here ya go if u want it. Again this is only if you used my root in the op. If you are still total stock w/o root then start at step 4
