Root Flash cm7

Yellow Snowman

I rooted my phone as soon as it came out and was waiting for this stable cm7 ROM. You guys said this version is as stable as it gets so I'm ready to flash.

My question is, what downloads will I need or do you suggest? I've already downloaded the cm7 Rom here:

RC1.3 FOR MR2/MR2.5 RADIOS Uploaded 7/24 10:20PM
md5sum 3dd3ff22c3677c653308dfdf6a357b50

Where would I find the proper radio and gapps? Or any suggested kernals to work with this Rom?

Thanks in advance.

The rom will flash the "stock" kernel the dev put in there. I would suggest first getting the rom/radio/gapps flashed first once you are comfortable and ready flash a different kernel to start learning those.

I believe only lithid gapps include gtalk

When I rooted yesterday night, I found out that after I flashed the MR2 OTA radio on top of stock root image, I lost all cell service. Thankfully I was still able to use wifi to download a couple of apps that I needed before flashing CM7. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that the stock image that you root with doesn't like the MR2 OTA radio but once you flash CM7 over it, you'll be fine.

Good luck, following the walkthrough on XDA isn't as daunting as it seems and the IRC channel they give for help is pretty well staffed.

i was hoping to follow scottys directions in the "how to" thread. Is this a good idea or should I follow different directions to flash all 3 (rom, radio, gapps)?

You will need to follow his directions to flash the rom and radio, you flash gapps like the rom but do not wipe

so I'm assuming I cannot flash all 3 at the same time?

and if i do all 3 at separate times i'm guessing there is a specific order in which to do them. which order do you recommend?

thanks for the guidance,yeahha.

the flash a rom directions include gapps,so no prollem flowing them,aND use the "flash in hboot" directions to flash the radio. we cannot stress enuff the importance of having a full charge on your phone, and double/triple checking the md5 sum of the radio youre going to flash. flashing things in hboot is the best way for beginners to mess up their phone,if they are careless

sorry i was so short with the PMs,im glad it all worked out for you :)

In all honesty I haven't spent as much time reading the sticky as I should so I wasn't sure if it included how to flash gapps

there is so much confusion over radio/rom flashes,i think a write up on that is in order. ill try and get one done in the next couple of days.

eventually everyone will be on a newer radio, but for now its thrown a pretty good wrench into things for folks unfamiliar with flashing in hboot and flashing roms in general.

You helped out alot, thanks. And your how to thread couldnt have made things easier to get my phone working again.

as far as flashing the new rom/radio/gapps I havent done that yet as I need my phone for work (its my life line) and want to make sure I do it right.

Once I know for sure how to flash all 3 and in what order I am going to do it. The downloads are ready to roll on my desktop already!

You should flash the rom before gapps. You can choose to flash the radio before the rom or after gapps. If you flash the rom, gapps, then radio if/when you boot between flashing gapps and the radio you will have no signal. If you flash the radio first when you boot before flashing the rom/gapps you will have no signal. There is no specific order in which you must flash the rom and radio

I usually flash the rom first, gapps, then adb reboot bootloader from within recovery, flash the radio and the reboot works first time.
This is wat I do as well.

But If I couldn't,I'd flash the radio, boot, remvove the pg05img,then boot to recovery and flash the rom.

Personal preference,it doesn't seem to matter which you flash first

Right after the rom. Think of gapps as part of the rom flash. You'll always flash it immediately after flashing the main rom.

Since everyone in here is so helpful I have a related question regarding Lithid Gapps. I'm on CM7 RC1.3, with the standard Gapps. I have been unable to get GTalk video chat to work by uploading modified apk and lib files. Apparently it works on Lithid's Gapps. Can I flash the Lithid Gapps on top of my current setup without a data wipe or do I need to wipe and start from scratch if I want it? Disclaimer: I'm at work right now or else I would just try it out and see what happens.

so i flashed and backed up everything and it went as smoothly as it gets which is great.

my only problem is my phone isn't picking up any satelite signal at all. luckily for me wifi works so i'm able to use my phone a little. Anyone know how i can fix this?

I'm barely getting 1-2 weak bars on 3G and not getting 4G

By satellite do you mean the GPS?

As for 3G signal strength ignore the bars. They can be deceptive. The real number of importance is the number you get when you go to Settings, About Phone, Status - Signal Strength here measure in dBm. Should see something between -75 dBm and -95 dBm.

signal -91 dbm

reason i said no signal is because when i go to market or email without wifi it wont connect. i search internet and it says "wed page not available"

because 3g/4g isnt working. gps works very very very slow without wifi if it works at all

Get on wifi if possible.

Download Set DNS (https://market.android.com/details?id=uk.co.mytechie.setDNS). Google might not be able to push it to your phone, so download it over wifi.

Choose OpenDNS or some other DNS service.

Edit: I have mine set to 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.3 -- fixed me right up.

Phones use A-GPS or assisted GPS. They use network location information to help GPS get a lock. So with no wifi whereis and no cell tower info, the A-GPS does not have the extra data it needs for a fast lock. Stand alone GPS devices have a much larger antenna or multiple antennas so they do not need the extra data.

You should be able to flash over your current set up. I would make a backup just in case ;)
