Flashed, but unable to root.

Hi Team

I attempted to root my galaxy S2 last night and got about halfway through before encountering issues - looking for a little advice before I proceed so I don't make any further mistakes. Here's what I did:

Using Odin I flashed using the following file:
http ://downloadandroidrom.com/file/GalaxyS2/kernels/ICS/CFRoot

I tried using S2 root to root the phone, but it wouldn't recognise the phone was connected.

Cause of the problem: I didn't have Kies installed. So I've installed keys, but s2 root still wont recognise the phone. Also windows tries to install the drivers when I connect the phone but the installation fails.

The phone is from Hong Kong, I can get more details etc if needed. Phone still goes into reset mode and download mode.

Appreciate any help on how to proceed.

Many thanks,

Matt

The file path suggests that you've flashed an Android v4.0.x (ICS) kernel, but your handset will be running v2.3.x.

There's an excellent guide to rooting the GS2 here. Follow that and you should sort things out in no time.
