Root Flashed Evo 4g LTE help

mwjw696

Newbie
I just bought a brand new never even opened HTC Evo 4g LTE yesterday for $100 (awsome deal I know). I took it to someone else, and they Flashed the rom to Mean v2(I think) and switched it from Sprint to Boost for me. The phone is working great and everything he did works (3g, internet, phone, text, camera). I used my own doner phone so I know its legit.

But I would like to root my phone mostly to get rid of bloat ware and other fun things before I go installing all my apps and personal stuff. He told me that rooting would be ok but there is a bootloader tampered message everytime the phone boots up. I have watched the videos and even read the step by steps. I just can't find any info on what risk there is to flashed roms and losing my system settings that where put into the phone.

Is there any problems rooting phones like mine? Is there something im missing about the bootloader message fix? What can I do and not do it terms of rooting and even say updating to cryogen 10 mod? I have rooted 2 Samsung Transform Ultras, and a HTC phone. Both where already on boost and the rooting was simple one click stuff.

Thanks in advance!

if you get s-off you can get rid of the watermarks. you can use this:[UTILITY | S-OFF] RegawMOD Bootloader Customizer 3.1.1 | Updated 07.04.12

here is the guide you will need:

Thanks alot for the info! In reading through it I can not figure out which OTA version I have. I have software version 1.22.651.3 71ORD, Hboot 1.15, and Android 4.0.3.

It seams silly but I can not figure out which unlock method to use.

Thanks again!

any of the methods in the guide will work. i would recommend that you get s-off with dirty racun. having just an unlock bootloader can make certain things harder to do. for one you can't flash firmware or radios (but since you are flashed to another network, i'm not sure how that will work). you can flash use PJ75IMG files which can be used for firmware, splashscreen, bootanimations, and recoveries. you can't flash kernels with s-on. you have to pull the kernel out of the rom and fastboot command the boot.img(where the kernel is) onto the phone. however most roms have the s-on kernel installer cooked in. so you will need to read up on the rom and see if it has the kernel installer cooked in or not.

i hope i helped and not confused you some more:o....lol

if so please feel to keep asking questions:)

I going to have to ask my guy that flashed the phone over to boost about firmware updating. The radio is just the FM radio app on the phone right? Could not care less about that. I know that updating my profile, PRL, or MSL will remove what I have flashed. Roms might also be out of the question, but from what he said it already has Mean Rom installed.

The main thing I want is just to get it rooted so that I can uninstall bloat-ware, and remove auto startup apps. Maybe ad-remove and "non play store" apps. I don't really care about roms, and kernals just yet. Maybe one day when I can learn a bit about the software.

Thanks again.

lets do this.....what is your hboot? does it say unlocked? what is your baseband(radio)?

do you know how to get to the bootloader where the above info would be at?

if you have mean rom then you are most likely rooted of sorts. long press on the power button and select reboot and then reboot into the bootloader. the info we need will be there.

and when i say radios, i mean the radios that allow you to connect to 3g, 4g, as well as your cellular receptions.

Yea thats what I was also thinking. But the Hboot is still locked, and no SU.

I thought it might be, like I said ive footed other phones but still learning the lingo. :D

Hboot 1.15.0000 Radio 1.05.11.0606

I can get to the bootloader just fine with Power + down volume. Its still says locked of course.

hmmmmm i wonder how it was flashed then, since you are not unlocked........weird

well you can try the guide i linked you to earlier.

Yea im thinking there is no custom rom installed. But since thats not a problem for me I would just consider it a new clean phone that can not have the radio or phone idenity changed.

Ive been reading and re-reading the racun method... they have way to much Ubuntu mixed in. Needs to be made into a seperate guide. I have ADHD man its hard to keep track of... Any idea if this method would work for getting the root going? How to Root HTC Evo 4G LTE! [Unlock Bootloader][TWRP Recovery] | HTC Evo 4G Hacks!

ubuntu is only used just in case you get semi bricked. there is a command that you can run in ubuntu to unbrick the phone. it is merely a precaution. or the other time you will use ubuntu is if your computer hardware does not match with what is supported. you can even use windows 7 64 bit, you just need the 32 binaries is all.

you can unlock the bootloader. it is the second method you can do. that link is the same method listed in the guide.

I can follow that guide better for some reason. Maybe cause of all the pictures... god that sounds sad. As a PC tech I now feel ashamed... :(

Still playing with my phone at 4am... I am having an issue with my phone calls display. The image of the person is fine but the dial pad is way off to the right side. What the hell happened?

The only thing I did was root it and install TWRP. And a couple apps ifunny, gemini app, gas buddy, flash light, ad-free.

try going into recovery and wipe dalvik cache and cache and see if that helps. if not then maybe flashing another rom might help, but that is weird.

Congrats on the root!

I'm still baffled how you had mean rom pre root lol

my only thinking is that the place where it was flashed, they used a dev tool to get access to root switched out the radios to boost and installed a custom rom and locked everything backed up. it is something that we on the outside do not have access to.....i'm just guessing though.

Could be what happened. He did not tell me how he did it of course. Was very nice and it took him 3 hours.

He tried to warn me about rooting because of the boot animation warning. But you fixed that in your first reply. :D

Welcome to the "Better" side of android!!! :D

Happy flashing, and don't forget to do your NANDroid backups!!! They're important, trust me. ;)
