Root flashed rom without backup

rkid007

Newbie
perhaps I am okay but I just want to make sure. I have been rooted for awhile and just flashed my first ROM (apex 1.3.1)

before I did, I used bootstrap to backup my device in its stock and rooted state. however this is all i did. i did not install ROM manager and backup that way.

if i do something and brick my phone and need to bring it back to stock. can i use bootstrap and apply the backup i took to get things as they were?

i have also gone ahead and downloaded the SBF .340 to my SD card. can i apply that one as well through bootstrap or is there another method needed for that?

thanks,

Yes.

No. You need to have the SBF files on your computer and you flash it from RSD Lite 4.8 or 4.9.

If you really hose your X, you'll want to flash with the .320 SBF, then restore your backup. The .340 backup is usually used for upgrading purposes (like if you don't have a backup).

The .340 sbf is system files only, the .320 sbf is a full sbf (much larger).

Some people downplay Rom Manager, but I use it to create/manage my backups. You could use it to rename your backup to something meaningful like mine. Just don't use spaces in the name.

thanks for the info. i think i will go back and get familiar with ROM manager. I guess I overlooked it when i initially went through the steps to flashing the ROM on it.

I used to think ROM Manager made different back-ups than Bootstrapper did. But they both make nandroids. Different paths that lead to the same road. So as long as you made a nandroid in Bootstrapper you're good to go. Here is my list. ..

I have been down on ROM Manager lately because since the latest OTA my copy has been buggy as in it doesn't work. So I decided to uninstall and reinstall. Opened it up and clicked Backup Current ROM. Goes into boot recovery the little android guy with the triangle and exclamation shows up and tries to do a backup then stops. Rediculous.

Did you go into TiBU, wipe the date in ROM Manager, unistall it, erase any backups you have, and then reinstall it via the market?

Well, I just did so via your instructions. It did ask for SuperUser Permission which it hasn't in the past. However ended up going through the same exercize. Stop just after getting to the Andriod guy and rebooted. No backup. Hey wait I only have the free version would that have anything to do with it?

What happens if you open recovery, tap the top button (says, "success"), then try it. I wouldn't bother to type in a new file name until you get it resolved tho.

You also could go into superuser and find Rom Manager in there, tap it and choose "forget".

Bootstrap works great. Never had a problem with it and I can see the backups I make using Bootstrap in ROM Manager

Have you never paid for it? Or do you mean it didn't restore the paid version?

Oh Yeah. I'm on Apex 1.3.0 RM is giving me superuser permission it just isn't cooperating. This is not a big deal. My phone is performing great and I can do all I need using Bootstrap. I think I'm going to pony up and buy the paid version and see what happens. Should support the dev anyway.
