Flashing a modem?

Do I need to wipe anything before flashing a modem?

Nope, just make sure (a) the handset battery is well-charged and (b) nothing interrupts the flashing process (like a disconnected USB cable), as premature termination of a baseband flash can properly brick your device.

Thanks. I plan to go in to recovery mode and install zip from sd card. Is this the correct procedure?

Yeah cwm flashable modems are flashed the same way as roms and kernels.
