Root Flashing custon ROM

jmparsons

Lurker
I have a rooted EVO 4G, but haven't flashed any custom ROMs. I was originally interested in getting rid of the bloatware.

I have ROM manager and Titanium Backup. I know how to do a Nandroid backup. My question is this: If I flash a new ROM, will I have to reinstall all my apps? Will I lose my data and SMS/MMS messages? If so, is there a streamlined, foolproof way to do this?

Thanks,
Joe Parsons

Step 1 and 2 are going to be getting rid of rom manager and clockwork mod recovery and switch to anon ra.

Then your going to want to back up all your user apps via titanium backup.

Make a nandroid and wipe everything except for your sdcard. Then flash the Rom.

Check out tommys EVO classic, mikg, or decks reloaded

Thank you for the replies. Is there any special action I should take to replace ROM Manager and CWM with anon ra? Will anon ra take the place of both apps?

You are just going to uninstall Rom manager and install amon ra as your recovery. Let me get to a computer so I can link the files

There's another thread on here about how to help a newbie unroot. That details exactly how to flash Amon RA 2.3 and flash a custom rom.

I have downloaded amon ra in pc36img.zip. The recovery.img is dated 2/9/11. is that the latest version?

Where did you get it from? The actual Amon Ra 2.3 base hasnt been touched in some time (probably 2011), but there are other recoveries that have taken that base and built new features into it like the option to autoreboot at the end of nandroids, to be able to restore both cwm and amon ra nandroids, and built in superwipe capabilities.

If you want these extra capabilities this is the recovery I use:
[RECOVERY][MOD][19-May-2012] RA-supersonic-v4.2-smelkusMOD - xda-developers

Others stick with amon ra 2.3 because it just works. The link for amon ra 2.3 and instructions on how to install any recovery are found here:

Directions for flashing are in the above link as well. In the after root sections

I used the link provided by MizzouBrent. I'll try the one you've suggested.
