flashing thunderbolt kernels overclock

Hey guys, newly rooted as of last night. The devs really are amazing when they release these mods; my phone looks exactly like my gf's htc sensation now.

I am wondering if someone can provide a step by step on how to flash a kernel. Can't seem to find anything online that doesn't assume you know everything already.

So, let's start with, where to download kernels from? And which one you guys prefer, and then how to flash them? Am assuming you go into hboot for this.

Also, I bought setcpu and am on das bamf sense 3.0 rc4 but don't think I can do anything on it yet unless i get a new kernel...

Correct me if I'm wrong on anything here. Thanks.

EDIT: I actually think I answered my own question. I just went to das bamf toolkit and there is an option to overclock up to 1.9 ghz there! Which leads me to believe that some other kernel is already embedded in the rom. Correct me if I'm wrong, there is just too much terminology with rooting with roms, radios, kernels etc.!

This is probably the most concise listing of roms, radios and kernels:
The Official Thunderbolt ROMs & Kernels Listing v2.5 (Updated 7/7 12:40 AM CST) - xda-developers

Make sure you use a proper Sense or AOSP kernel.

To flash, simply put the file on your sd card, boot the phone into recovery by, yes, getting into hboot, vol down to highlight recovery and power button to select. Once there, use the volume rocker to select "install from sd card" then "choose zip from sd card" and then find the file. Power button to select it and "yes, install.....". The go back and reboot.

As far as preference, everybody has their own. I just flashed imoseyon 3.3.4 and I'll see how it goes...I've always had good experiences with his kernels. It's basically trial and error. Once you find a combo that you think works the best for you, you tend to stick with it...until a new rom or kernel drops :D

Welcome to rooted world, prepare to learn a lot and flash a lot :D

Pretty sure the das bamf rom I flashed has some kernel in there already. I used the das bamf toolkit and overclocked it to 1.6 ghz. Not sure if that is safe or not but we'll see how it goes. Used setcpu to turn cpu to 200mhz when the screen's off.

Surprising thing is that the quadrant score seems to be the same as before I rooted ~ around 1850 or so...

Every rom has a "stock" kernel with it. Some have more functionality built in than others. When you start flashing roms and kernels, you have the ability to come across a combination that may extend your battery life, allow you to OC/UC etc. Some are set to do this without setcpu.

Yeah all roms have a kernel with them. You can change the kernel by flashing it just like a rom. If you want to overclock most TB kernels have speedtweak.sh built in. Open terminal and type "su" enter then "speedtweak.sh" enter. You can then choose the different voltage, speeds, and governers. I would stay away from going too high as it can make your phone unstable, feel free to test with it and see how it works for you. You can also download setCPU and manually set min and max speed but I personally like using speedtweak.sh better.

Also remember to post root related questions in the all things root subforum. While these guys gave you a lot of good advice, posting in the proper place keeps the site tidy and you would probably get more answers there. :)

My bad, when I originally posted the thread I thought i was in the root forum but I wasn't. So if a moderator could please move it, that would be great.

So for the kernels. Im thinking of flashing the imoseyen. If i flash, will this wipe everything like a rom would? Or would it be more similar to flashing a radio? thx.

EDIT: Appears this das bamf rom has the nerozehl's dreamKernel which is the same as imoseyen with "enhancements" so think I am good in the kernels department.

Id leave the kernel as is.

Also, get rid of set cpu.

It causes conflicts with the toolkit. Id also recommend not clocking any higher than 1.4. You wont see any performance increase and can cause overheating, reboots and decreased battery life.

How do u uninstall setup? I tried doing it old fashioned via the market but the app is still there after i uninstall
