Help Flashlight App For Moment

OK, good news. It was easy to fix for 2.1, I have it running on my phone now. I'll make a few other tweeks and then post a new version on the market that works with 2.1 and 1.5. I'll also put up a donation version since people have practically been begging to give me money ;)

OK - here's a version that should(!) work on both the 1.5 and 2.1 OS for the Moment.

I've made a few changes:
1. As above, should work on either OS
2. For the widget, people didn't like that bright mode was so easy to turn on, so I made it "triple click". You will tap it three times to enable it.
3. For the app, I changed the widget. It's a flashlight theme now, with a red button to turn it on. Tap the red button to turn on and off. If the flash is on and you long-touch it, bright mode will go on.
4. Orientation is always portrait mode (so flashlight doesn't get all distorted when you turn your phone).
5. While light is on, it will prevent phone from sleeping.

Let me know if it works or if you have any issues with it on either OS.

I'm going to create a "pro"/"donate" version that has two little buttons at the bottom of the flashlight (one labeled 'S' and one labeled 'M'). If you tap the 'S' you can enter a number of Hz and it will strobe at that speed. If you tap 'M' you can enter text and it will flash it in morse code.

Runs great. Thanks JV. The only issue I encountered is that rebooted my phone when I tried to install it the first time, second time was successful.

This could have been caused by the tweeks I have running, SPH-M900_MR2_DD03_REL-joeykrim-recovery-2.1.3.tar, Android2.1-DD10-SDX-update.zip, joeykrim-SDX-a2.1-root-v5.zip, jitv4.zip and Fixed.davlik.cache.for.jitv4-beta.zip.

Hmm, hopefully this is just a one-off. The installation itself is pure stock android, nothing special.

If anyone else sees this please let me know.

OK, here's an early beta of the "pro"/donate version. It's buggy, sometimes you have to hit the red button twice for it to register the click, and the strobe doesn't turn on the "flash in use" view, and it may have various other issues including some that force close the app.

But it should work well enough to see what I'm going for. If you have any suggestions on making it better, let me know. I'm almost done and can't spend a ton of more time on it, but can tweak it here or there.

For morse code, tap the 'M' and type some text in the box, then click red button. You can stop by clicking red button again.

For strobe (don't be give yourself a seizure ;)) click S, and enter a number in the box and click red (you can stop by clicking red again. I'm not sure how fast this thing can strobe, but I limit it to 100Hz. I doubt it even goes that fast but I'm not sure.

To go back to normal mode, click 'S' or 'M' again to hide the text field.

OKay, long story short my idiot brother asked to play with my phone, no biggie, gives it back to me super hot. I'm like WTF I notice he had this app the whole time! I turned it off but of course now this app/anything that uses the flash (camera, etc) does not work. Any ideas on how to fix it? Most likely its the hardware, not the app. Be careful not to let people who dont usually use touchscreen phones play with you phone haha I tried to search but no dice. thanks :D

Works great! Thanks JV! I will say the three tap when using helix launcher makes the launcher show the five homescreens i have at the bottom like little cards. I don't use the bright mode so much and I am getting the N1 launcher in abit but I thought I would post that.

I'd try doing a full blown reset (remove and replace battery). I wouldn't expect even a blown flash to stop these apps from running, I'd think the flash just wouldn't turn on but the apps would think it did.

If this doesn't work - let us know, there are a few reports of a blown flash on the app market but it's hard to tell what happened.

Realistically, it's likely some flashes will break just based on sheer numbers, whether using the flash too much burns them our or whether it's just a random hardware failure that happens on 1/XXXX phones - it would happen with movie camera flash use or normal flash use, but also with MomentFlash.

Is there a Barcode link to the new version, somewhere? (i went to the Forums on my phone, but when I tried to DL the App, I got "unknown type"...and it wouldn't DL.
(I do have 2.1 with DD10 on my Moment.)
BTW... Thanks so much, Robert!

I have 2.1 DD10 and I just Dl'd his link to my computer and put it on my SDCard. Installed with Astro and it works...mostly. Still trying to get morse code to work (Nm...I rtfm!).

If I'm ever lost on a deserted island, I require this app. :o)

Lol, yeah there's maybe a 1/1000000 chance that Morse code thing could be more than just a curious toy sometime. Maybe you could also send a mugger into a seizure with the Seiz..I mean Strobe button ;)

Yeah, as of now the forum link is only avail install link. I'll finish up some last minute bug fixes/cleanups and post it on the Market probably Sunday or Monday.

jvrobert thanks for your reply. The apps open up just fine, it's the actual LED/flash that no longer works. He had to have had it on super bright for like 10-20 minutes. I was in another room and when he gave it back to me, I noticed it was really hot and the app running. The LED was still on and of course I shut it off and just to be on the safe side I turned the phone off and even removed the battery. I tried to take some pics the other day and it didn't work so I saw your post that you had updated the app and tried to install it. No go. I even flashed back to CL14 to see if 2.1 was the culprit and still nothing. Too bad, I really loved this app. I'm gonna try to fix it but I haven't seen any write ups of how to go about it. Again, this is completely my fault for even letting him play with it, this app works awesome but you just gotta be careful. :)
