Hi

Since Tims 4e update, I can't get the camera to work. On clicking the Camera icon , after a short pause, all I get is coloured flashing lines. No picture of my horified face looking at the screen. Tried reboot but still the same. Any ideas guys?

It was working ok before the flash.

Thanks in advance

Daven

try an app like 'hdr camera' to take over from the stock one
double checked my camera just there works fine.

Re-download the firmware and try again. Format the tf card with SDFormatter and un-mount the card before removal. The camera works with the default software in Tims4e so it's probably your flash that is causing the problem.

Thanks Guys

I thought of starting again but having to imput all the settings and down load the apps again put me off and would only try this as a last resort.

One more question guys and sorry if is a bit basic, but where do you put Music and Video files so that they show up in the Video player and Music player apps. The ones I have installed do work from file manager so I know they are alive and well.

Cheers

the android market remembers your apps installed so isnt to much work to reinstall. you can find them in the menu under my apps if downloaded from the market of course.
as for storage of files if being transferred to the sdcard from your pc just create a folder you'll easily find. as for downloads from the web to your device they auto go to download folder .
personally i store nothing on the tablet and use usbs to view my media files.

Hi Dart16

I have tried flashing the firmware 3 times and get the same results. everything else seem ok but not the camera. I think I am left with 3 possibilities

1) My flytouch/flytouch camera is buggered
2) Tims 4e is not compatible with the 32gb version of the ibex flytouch
3) I am stupid.

anyone like to comment (except on point3!)?

I'm now on my 6th flash. Still no camera. I would suggest caution for anyone thinking of flashing the 32gb ibex on the strength of my experience so far.

Anyone have any suggestions before I go insane!!....boy you need a lot of time to spare with these things.

How about re-flashing an earlier version that the camera used to work in to eliminate/confirm point 1?

Hi Tbod

I'm not sure of what my screen size is and the version I had originally is anything but clear even after a system info app download. You seem to be a big fan of So1. Do you think it is worth giving this a go just to see it the camera works?
Incidentally I tried the BBC iplayer tonight and it works great in full screen mode although lip sync is a bit out. All in all everything is great if it wasn't for this annoying camera issue.

Cheers

Hi,

My camera works with s0I's firmware both in photo and movie modes so, yes, I would say it is worth trying if having a working camera is high on your list of necessities...

Regarding the BBC iPlayer, that also works fine, no hangs and no lip sync problems. Only two provisos:

  1. If you go full screen it hangs
  2. If you switch away the player stops [even for radio!] and when you switch back the picture is replaced by a white square. No problem though, a simple page reload brings it back to resume slightly before the pause.

As far as I'm concerned, that's a winner [not Michael thankfully].

Thanks tbod

I think I will have a go with So1 tonight. If it works I may try a PAYG dongle rather than forking out

Just as a matter of interest Tcheko, were these all 32gb ibex Flytouch 3's from chinagrabber you had the problems with?

Hi D,

those are all 8gb black-boxed pad, I have been buying this particular model from the same seller in china for a while, I know this doesn't mean anything as there are 100's of various models and hardware combinations.

I like these as they are the 8000mAh models, nice bright and reasonable sensitive screens.

I have managed to brick one already in pursuit of a solution while doing USB firmware update :(

Ah thats not good, bricking 1 already trying to fix them. Hope you can recover it again m8.

I'm awaiting one at the moment, the one I mentioned above but now a bit wary about flashing it until this is resolved.

Yeah good to be careful about it. Specially the 32gb model. Saying that, they are all the same with removable internal sdcard so swapping 8 to 32 is pretty straight forward, presuming the software supports it ;)

The thing is I've done this pretty much on every flytouch I've sold and never had a problem, really annoying!

I am going to swap the working webcam from one of the others just to eliminate any possible hardware fault, however on 8 tabs? .. unlikely!

Cheers D !

Hi Daven,

any luck getting the camera working?

Strangely I have exactly the same problem - I had 10 tablets delivered and after the firmware update 8 out of 10 tablets now do not have the camera working, pretty much the same symptoms as you described - random colours or just blank green screen, alternative camera software just blank screen.

The firmware used was Tim's 4e, I have used this in the pass on roughly 20 tablets without any problems.

Strange think is that even after reinstalling the original software (and x number of other variations) the problem persist. I am puzzled here.

If anyone would find a solution I would be humbled and eternally grateful, hell I may even give you a nice discount on the tab

Hi Tcheko

I am quite relieved that others have the same problem. I was beginning to think it was something it was doing/not doing.

I think I have exhausted everything and yet the problem persists.

Numerous re flash with Tims 4e with clinical precision formatting, So1, and flash to last official version. I was not able to install a different camera as the stock on is preventing it from starting.

I also agree that it unlikely to be a hardware issue.

It may mean something to someone but when running Android System app from Market the camera reports the following:

Antibanding:null
Color effect: none
Exposure Compensation:0
No Camera available or error while accessing camera.

It would be interesting to see if the number of new tablets displaying this problem increases in the next few weeks. If you have seen the problem on tablets other than just the 32gb version like mine then this is going to be a bigger problem.

As I've said before, everything else is great and although the camera issue does not make a huge difference to me I just hate it when something does not do what it should.

I'm not able to offer a discount for a solution like you but I will certainly heap praise on any one that does :)

Cheers

My 1750 is PAYG, I bought a bunch of pre paid SIMs from eBay which give me up to 3Gb for up to 90 days for seven or eight pound each.

It's actually cheaper for me to buy a new SIM than to 'top up' an old one as the top ups not only cost more but they only last for 30 days!

Great tip. Thanks tbod.
Two questions:
1) Are you in the UK?
2) Which network is your PAYG?

Cheers

For the lads with the malfunctioning cameras

Just been on the other forum and this is what Tim says:

Seems to me that they changed the hardware in the latests models.
First would need to find which drivers / binaries control the cam in these new model's rom,
difficult to find without having one of these models for testing.

Once the differences are found then the new drivers / apps would need to be changed in my ROM,
or a script added to switch between the 2 sets of drivers if the new one is not backward compatible with the old cameras hardware.
Which would make it a pain to maintain.

I've just had my Tablet delivered so I offered to send him any files he needs from mine, if that's any help to him I don't know.

I'll keep you posted either way, deeboi.
