Help Folders, Photos & Keyboard

Okay, so I just got my phone this Thursday for my birthday. I love it so far, I get annoyed with the touchscreen keyboard but I downloaded the Smart Keyboard trial, it making things easier so far. Does the paid version have the Swype feature?

I also downloaded Launcher, I wasn't too happy with it. I like the default home screen that the phone came with -_-

Second, I'm a neat freak, I like for everything to be organized and in order. Is there a way to change the names that my photos were saved as?

Lastly, is there a way to create folders. There's a bunch of apps I don't need that I would like to place in one folder. I am not interested in rooting my phone.

1) I am pretty sure Launcher is different than LauncherPro which blows the stock homescreen away with flying colors.

2) You should be able to long press on your photo after navigating to it with File Manager, once you long press, I am pretty sure there is a " rename " option.

3) As far as folders....I don't think you can make folders. There is a hide icon feature... I just can't remember if that came default as my phone is off right now because I am trying to quickly charge it so I can't look, but I believe somewhere in the settings, there is a hide app feature somewhere, unless I am wrong, and it's only once you root. As far as rooting, rooting gives you total control over your phone, you can do so much more to your phone when it comes down to just customization alone, I am so happy I discovered rooting. Another benefit of rooting.. is .. instead of just hiding the app shortcuts from your drawer, you can remove all the extra useless apps that Metro pre-installs on your phone which 1) takes up space and 2) simply slows your phone down.

If you do ever decide to root your phone, it's very simple and it's reversible as well, there is a step by step guide from Jazz as a sticky at the top of the Ascend section....also...here is a list of the bloatware apps that are safe to remove.

1 Boingo Wifi
2 MetroPCS Easy Wifi ( Only for Metro, and no..removing this won't break your wifi )

3 Uno ( DEMO )
4 Online Banking
5 Mocospace
6 Pocket Express
7 Games ( Not Really Games )
8 Virtual Card
9 Documents To Go

Those are the only 9 application that are SAFE to remove from your phone. Do not remove anything google related.

Hope this information helps.

You can create folders by long pressing in any empty section of a homescreen. There is a way to hide apps in the app drawer without rooting, but before hiding apps, first create the folders. To add an app to a folder, you long press an app in the app drawer and place it on top of the folder you want it in, like drag and drop in Windows PC.

To hide the app icons without rooting, first of all, make the folders first if you want to. Download Launcher Pro from Market. Once installed, go to your homescreen and press Menu key. Select Preferences, General Settings, Hidden Apps, and select the apps you want to hide.

Hey NY, you dont need root to hide apps. You can do it with Launcher Pro and I think thats how you did it. You just didnt remember I guess. Also, creating folders and placing apps in them is possible, by long pressing on a homescreen and dragging and dropping the apps you want to group. :)

My bad

I did know, but could not remember where it was since my phone was off.

I've learned so much since I came here that I've already forgotten half of what I learned. LOL

We really do need to get these threads more organized and put in that sticky. :)

Wow. Thank you so much guys, extremely helpful.
So in order to create folders and hide apps I need LauncherPro?
I can't do it with the stock homescreen?

The folders can only be created in the homescreen? I was more so interested in creating folders where all the apps are located (not sure what that is called).

You mean the app drawer. And no, only in the homescreen. You are thinking like how it is on iOS right?
