Root for the prevail masters

Reading everyone's post, I'm probably one of the older members here then. I'm from the old days... my first project was building my own 110 manual coupler modem, then mem boards using zip chips, and the like. Eventually ended up a blackhat in the late 80's/early 90's. Back then you weren't sh*t and couldn't get onto my boards if you didn't have a USR 16.8 HST.

Now, I am in the same line as hroark13.
 
I am an overeducated unemployed former IBM AS/400 programmer / IT Manager Dinosaur who burned out in 1999 after 20 years.

Have done many things since then.

Uh...

Mostly Sales and Service Routes and Inventory Control Analysis in the Auto Parts Industry.

Trying to get back in the game now somehow, yet not sure at what level at this stage in my Life.
 
I've done everything from running a family owned and operated retail furniture business for 15 yrs to commercial fishing a month at a time in the Atlantic Ocean .

I started working on computers in 2001 and haven't looked back since . I'm no programmer but I can take one apart and put it back together blindfolded . I know my way around a Windows OS pretty well too .

I bought my first Android phone last May, rooted it the second week I had it and have been modding it since .

I am currently working on getting my California Drug and Alcohol Counselors Certification from California State University Bakersfield . :)
 
Johnny .That is pretty Cool! I have an old friend I used to run with who did the same thing.

He went from Sheet Metal to HVAC. He was a perfectionist in Ductwork. I did a few side jobs with him then. Boy, it gets hot up there.

He always claimed that he could.cut a tailored pair of pants out of sheet metal. Lol.

Most of them that I knew had inhaled too many fumes. Lol.

Tough Job. Tried a few side jobs with them too. Not for me.

I think it does help explain your talent and interest in style and colors.

lol ..i imagine hell as being about the same tempature..i do some service too..some low voltage wiring that has to do with the units..i like computers ..like all you guys but just started learning in the past six months..i bet they would have been some nice pants though;)

I know the feeling bro . Being broke is a bitch .Thankfully my wife has descent job and was able to support us while I underwent chemo last year:D . Even though I'll be going to school, I still plan on getting a part time job now that my health is getting better. The Boost shrinkage plan helps too.
 
I went to college to start for computer programming and was recruited before I finished to the Air Force as a pilot I served for 3 1/2 years out of 4 left with honorable medical discharge. I finished college after the Air Force and worked with AS/400, ARC/400 systems for most my life programming and updating for a few different companies. Since they are long since obsolete now I do odds and ends from board level repairs on machines that no longer have parts made for them to welding of any kind. I have my own business selling, repairing computers and accessories and manage a few networks and upgrades on computers and networks for my local government and 911 services.

If you can do the wiring, you should study and get your license if you don't have it already. That is where the money is as you know.

You can buy the units at wholesale.price. Scrap metal prices are high on the change outs too. Especially Copper.

LOL , I was in the USN working on gas turbines and was discharged with a Honorable Medical also . They said I was NUTS ! Nah , just kidding . Ruptured a disc and screwed up 3 others pretty badly . I'm gonna need surgery on that sucker one day (not looking forward to it) not to mention the degenerative disc disease caused by the injury to the other 3 . I'm just a feakin' mess . :D

yeah i dont have no major certs...cfc all three types..journeymans....tried to get nate certed for gas furnaces but i keep failing that darn test...bro i freaking love changeouts..but unfortunately the company i work for does mostly new construction for big builders like ryan and pulte

Service calls are sweet money too. Mostly changing the freaking filter.
 
I came here to congrats hroark on his recent successes on the prevail great job man. I sure do miss my prevail but if any of you care i am a full time college student working on a bachelors on computer programming.
 
I was either looking at getting a Warp , Marquee or Evo with tax money but other things have got to take priority first . Don't know if I'll have enough left over yet . Just gotta wait and see . Sure would be nice to have the larger screen .

Do me a favor and keep me up 2 date on how the Warp is doing . Thanks man . :)

no prob, we got cwm and quitestorm is working on cm7 although we still dont have a working flashable stockzip update which i am currently working on

I did the same thing! I was the assistant manager at our store until we shut down in 2008.

I feel you buddy, I started right after our business closed. I graduate this summer with my bachelor's in pre-law and hopefully start law school this fall. As of now though, I look after my parents, both disable, and I am a independent contract paralegal. Work for several attorneys and still remain broke.. Student loans and financial aid do not cover much anymore.. lol
 
I'm sheet metal guy myself and own a small hvac business lol. You guys have totally expanded my horizons. Like 2 weeks ago my phone was stock! If anyone needs anything tested I'd definitely devote my time

One thing I know for sure, you don't want to mess with a Heating and Air Man like you and Johnny.

You guys are STRONG. Especially if you have a small company with a 1 or 2 man crew.

Those units are HEAVY. I helped my Buddy do a change out where we had to carry the new unit into an attic up some flimsy Disappearing Stairs. Lol.

And he could have probably done it by himself.

Do a few of those per week and it will build you up.

And you have to have some smarts to pass those exams too.

I have a lot of respect for what you guys do.

I joined the Army when I was 18 and was doing Basic. I was in the top part of my class in riflery and was already being recruited to go down to Fort Benning for "Special Training", but less than 2 weeks from graduation they cut me for not releasing that I had undergone a knee surgery from when I was 12.... (They didn't ask, and I didn't tell. LOL!!!!!) I wound up going to college for Agriculture Sciences, and afterwards I settled into working for a Coors distributor as a delivery driver (better money than what was offered in the Ag field at the time). I worked my way up to a managers position winning 1999 Coors Driver of the Year in the process, but eventually had a pallet of beer falling from the truck bay take me out. I partially ruptured 2 disks, herniated another, not to mention the muscle damage associated with it, and now Degenerative Disc Disease..... I went through extended physical therapy, multiple treatments (spinal shots, nerve treatments, etc...) but wouldn't allow them to do the level 3 fusion that a few of the doctors wanted to do because I was still young (30 at the time). After settling, I wound up transferring with Coors out to Modesto for a few years, but missed N.C. like crazy, so gave up the beer business and came home. I'm now working at a Kimberly Clark mill in N.C. as a lead babysitter, but missing the beer every day....

Didn't realize there were so many of us. I work from home doing PC repair (mostly just malware removal since there is an abundance of folks too dumb to google how to's). 3 year old daughter, 2 year old son, and an 8 month old daughter. I DJ/KJ at night.
