Help Force gallery to refresh

If I do a load of jiggery pokery on my pc with gallery files, the only way I can get these changes to be reflected in the gallery on the phone itself is to reboot.

Is there a way to force the Gallery to refresh?

I've seen an app on the market called SDRescan, but if there is a simple way with the phone to do it I would rather do it this way.

Gallery refresh is a system function, if Gallery doesn't call it, you have to (but it should be done when mounting sdcard or after restart), I think the best way is to use shortcut created with Any Cut :

I already have Any Cut, but I dont have "media scanner" as an option under the activity menu

Unmount the SD card from Settings/Storage and then remount it. That should trigger a rescan.
