Im having a lil issue with the tethering with my laptop and the android browser itself now..

basically when I tether I can use the net as fine with my laptop except I CANNOT view youtube properly it shows me the 'mobile' version and refuses to force itself into the desktop version on my laptop except when its like 4 in the morning....im on vodafone and im wondering if they have an issue with people tethering...

I never had this problem a week before I got my desire when I would use my old nokia 5800 with the laptop, although that was running with a dial up modem setting NOT a tethering app like the desire..

just wondering if this is a vodafone issue with tethering itself...and if theres a way to force the desire NOT to use a tether command but to use the old dial up access way with the *#99# phone number way of old etc...

Also along with this I tried running youtube in the android browser after I noticed a youtube link failed to run on a page....and noticed my youtube in the browser was set to touchscreen mode....I tried setting it to desktop with the link at the bottem and it failed to do so...I then set it to mobile and now its LOCKED itself to mobile mode...

how can I FORCE it back to desktop mode, as this is a very similar issue to the tether one as well....I DONT have the "view as mobile sites" option ticked in the options I left that alone...

anyone got any ideas?

hmmm... well i use dolphin browser HD on my phone and there is a downloadable widget for it that switches between desktop and android mode. while being tethered, try switching between those modes and pressing f5 on your browser and see if it changes anything. just a thought more than a solution.

this is a very odd problem!

I'll give it a try, though I rather like the android browser due to its basic nature...its not obscured..

but I'll still give it a go...whats the widget called? or is it part of dolphin?

nope...that didnt work unfortunately...just means I'd have things run ok in THAT browser...thanks anyway

anyone else any ideas? I think its a vodafone issue....but going on their forum is well....they are crap there...their own 'expert staff' never even encountered the problem...or even know what anyones on about there..

Vodafones answer its make sure your apn settings are set to web....thats it...their great technical know how...and that is it...

didnt work either...and knew it wouldnt when im ALREADY set to that lol

and I have tried the about:debug string in the stock browser and set myself to desktop and youtube STILL forces mobile version with denial for desktop.

Pretty sure I had the same issue when I used tethering for a little while.
It's probably to do with the IP being assigned to a mobile device, and youtube being specially formatted for mobile IP's to save users/vodafone bandwidth

thats what im thinking...if that IS the case, like I said is there a way to force dial up access rather than tethering?

as with my nokia 5800 I could run it in pc sync mode and just use dial up access on PC and it technically didnt count as tethering...can I force the desire to use dial up access?

ive just tested youtube on my o2 sim and its fine, however im running miui rom currently and my apn settings are set to bypass (1% compression) so who knows.
both PC and device can display the full site

I think its vodafone because I got it to work briefly....now its back to desktop on both phone and laptop...and all I did was restart phone to refresh the cell network...

I think its traffic based hence why I want to FORCE dial up connection NOT auto tether..
