Help form autofill repeating entered text

djrasmu

Lurker
I updated my SIII to Jelly Bean recently and have been having issues with the autocompletion of text fields with remembered data. In the past, when I typed the first characters of something I've typed before, the popup for the auto fill would suggest my previous entry. When I tapped it, the field would be filled with that string of text. After updating, the same thing happens except the suggested text is added to the characters I already typed.

If that's not clear, here's an example. In the cinemark movie app, there is an option to find theaters by zip code. I would type 6 and the suggestion 62232 would pop up. I tap it and the text field shows 62232. In Jelly Bean, the exact same process now fills the text field with 662232.

Another even more infuriating example, many websites limits the credit card field to 16 characters. If I typed in 1, the auto fill would get me 1234567890123456. Under jelly bean, this becomes 1123456789012345. Then I have to go back to the beginning to delete the first 1 then back to the end to add the 6.

Can I change this behavior back?

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!

moved you to the s3 forum with other folks who have your phone.

so is this with every app? or just the ones you mentioned? sometimes after an update the phone gets a little confused, so a factory reset might be needed.

It would seem to be every app the uses form fields that allow for auto filled text, and the two are mentioned are the only examples I can think of that. However, since one is the web browser, it is a major irritant. I would rather not do a reset if this behavior is a change in the API. Is the change in behavior unique to my installation?

i wonder if changing the keyboard app from the stock version would help. i use swype and i do not seem to have this issue on my evo 4g lte.

Any suggestions?

Did the update and now having same problem. Type br then select the auto fill word Brian, then the text will show brBrian.

Didn't have this problem before.

Thanks.

Same issue here after the latest update. The autofill/guess above the keyboard works, but fields in web pages do exactly what djrasmu is describing.
