Former Evo users that bought Epic?

I think people that are coming from a mature smartphone platform realize what Sense brings to the table even if it's still not enough. And it's just a disgrace something as simple as a T9 dial pad is absent from stock Android amongs other features it lacks. Now that dismiss a call with a text message just brings me back to my PalmOS days. So happy to have that feature back with the Epic. Hear that Palm?

I think it's also a disgrace that email isn'T completely integrated into one app and is given equal treatment. The fact they still separate out gmail is just abysmal. As much as this is "google's" platform, they'll attract more people when things are fully integrated. Companies like AOL will continue to dig their own grave as they butcher their own email and make gmail a more attractive alternative. Not putting email sent from mobile sources and programs like Outlook and Thunderbird is pushing me to ditch my aol accounts. Workarounds for yahoo drove many to gmail. There's no reason to try and do it via a better client on their phones.

I have both in house. Epics nice for sure but as time goes on I am frequently reminded that the evo is the more mature product. Hard to explain that, you just have to live with them both to see. I am not tempted to trade my evo for an epic but I would be happy to own one.

Can we get a comparison of the Epic and EVO in direct sunlight? One thing I like about the EVO is that I can use my phone outside in direct sunlight (if I set the brightness to "Automatic"). How does the Epic's screen fare under natural sunlight? Just curious...

well I had them both set to full brightness and auto. Epic easily wins. It's more dramatic live than in a pic. Same wallpaper, widgets and icons (for the most part).

That was painful. Your phones are DIRTY :p

It seriously looks like you have the EVO at 0 brightness to try and exaggerate the differences :P

I have no ill will towards either phone. Tried to set them up both equally. The Evo screen has the same look in comparison to the Epic whether it's indoors or out. It's the nature of the tech.

What's painful is looking at the Evo's screen in sunlight. Much nicer to throw the Epic in a baggie and take it to the beach, which I'll be doing in an hour. I actually wiped each screen down with my shirt before taking the pics. It's remnant dust left behind from that combined with the brightness of the sun and nice 8mp sensor in my SD880.

well then open up your wallets, go buy both phones and take your own phuckin' pics to see how bad lcd sucks in the sun. :D

Bright sun + decent pic quality = every dust particle getting lit up like a christmas tree. Even after wiping the phones on my shirt real quick which is probably did more harm than good.

I switched to the Epic because it just has better hardware from my research. The screen and the GPU were the bigger factors. The Evo's screen really isn't that great, it's big but I thought the black levels and contrast were not that good even compared to my old Droid which was also lcd. The Evo is a good phone too though. Video is just mindblowing on the super AMOLED, there's no other way to put it. Hopefully one day we'll have large Super AMOLED TVs.

Any of you miss not having any type of flash on the phone. I wanted to like the epic but had to return it since I felt the evo was the more useful out of the 2. The screen and smoothness of the epic is what initially drew me to it but wasn't enough for me to keep it.

Any type of flash?

assuming he means video. and no I don't miss it, but I do know it'll come with the Froyo update. So even if I cared about it, it's only a month or so away. so no big deal.

I had the Evo for about 4 weeks and decided to switch to the Epic. I've never had a physical keyboard before, so that was actually a deterrent (at first). Now I absolutely LOVE the physical keyboard. I can actually see the web page I am typing into! What a concept. The screen is undoubtedly better, that is what initially made me switch.

Some gripes I have about it, the length of time it takes to charge, lack of accessories (so far, already getting better), and the fact that the ringer and the notification volumes aren't tied together to the volume rocker...

I had a EVO for about 2 weeks and yes it was awesome I must say BUT I wasn't really that happy with it. Even though it was a fast phone I could still out type it and it was kinda annoying to fix misspells long after it catches up with me. Then I come from iPhones and I found it much better to text on them for some reason. The iPhone never lagged on my typing. Other than that I had no complaints.

I now have the Epic and I must say it's way better for me. If I need to send out a real long text or email I simply slide out the actual keyboard and have at it. The real keyboard and the touch keyboard have not lagged on me once! I love the screen clarity and yes the Evo had a little bit of a biger one, I don't miss it. Functionality is more important to me.

All in all I'm glad I have the Epic now. It's much better for my style of use.

Oh yeah and for the camera quality differences, there really isn't much difference as I look at pics I took with the Evo and my Epic side by side
