Former iPhone users.. are you pleased?

I didnt dump the I4, but was going to return the EVO for silimar issues. I was so on the urge to return it, but I waited patiently, and glad I stayed. I do have ATT, and will be paying the early termintatin fee (about $100 based of however many months I have left on my contract) I did highly consider the Droid X, but Im glad here with the EVO. These forums are the sheit!
 
I'm going to pay ETF for two lines that I cancelled but it will be worth it, I was ready to throw that phone out of my window!

Is there really that big of a difference on the battery life on the Evo comparable to the Iphone? I would imagine that it could be that big. These are power hungry devices and if you leave all of the setting ons they will drain. I have an Ipod Touch that I use daily and I have to charge it everyday and it is no looking for the cell tower single.

the iphone 4's battery is great, even with heavy usage you can get a day. only downside of the EVO but I will be getting a couple of spares
 
Comparing my Evo to my wife's iPhone objectively, the iPhone does not get "awesome" battery life as advertised. She has to charge every single day. I charge my Evo once every 2 days. But my Evo has been rooted, and I've optimized the battery life. If my Evo were stock, and I applied the typical battery saving tips, it'd be very comparable to the iPhone. I was charging it once a day before I rooted, and it would be around 25% when I charged.

i know that ifans can blind to issues.. but how can they overlook this?? it would be pissing me off to no end!!

I know they have issues with attenagate.. but this can not be that high! maybe in very highly bad coverage areas...
 
The battery just needs to be managed and the phone is best charged to green both on and then off. I get better battery life out of my EVO then some of my friends which includes most of the comeptitors phones like the IP4 and Droid Incredible.

Another friend had a problem with his EVO battery and couldn't get a full day out of it no matter what. I tweaked it for him, told him the calibration trick and showed him how to charge it properly and he is amazed at the difference, now gets about a day and a half on average. Lots of really good info on the forum about this.

When i took the iPhone back to apple, the genius checked the diagnostics test and he confirmed that 95% of my calls were dropped and/or failed to connect. They offered me a new phone and a year free of mobileme. I walked out of the store with my money back and headed to radioshack.
 
for me the stock battery life is much better after the latest update ;)

I was on at&t about 2 years ago with no iphone and dropped calls were part of the deal.
 
I came from an iPhone 3G, and left for the same reasons you listed (dropped calls, no reception in many places, didn't get text messages until 10 minutes later, wouldn't get calls - would go straight to voicemail, and voicemails wouldn't show up until the next day).

Now with the Sprint, I get GREAT service, and I'm loving the Evo.
 
Welcome back. Follow the battery tweaks threads and you should be good to go. I am not rooted and only charge once a day to top it off. I got a spare battery just in case but have never needed it. I went 12 hours today with light usage and dropped leas than 20%.

The smart ones around here have really got this battery tweaking down, very grateful for all of their hard work, it works and I am not sacrificing anything (leave gps on all the time, etc)
 
I get 12-14 hrs on a heavy useage days and 18-20 on a lighter useage days. I've got 3 email accounts (2 through the HTC Mail app and 1 via a Gmail). Here are my settings.. My 2 e-mails I have set to update hourly, gmail is pushed. My screen is set to auto brightness, and times out at 1 min. Weather is updated hourly. Stocks and News is at the maximum (least frequent) setting. I leave 3G and GPS on constantly, everything else off. I have a live wallpaper. And I do not use FrendStream.

Thats my setup for what I consider to be pretty good battery life. If I am missing any major "battery hogs" let me know and I will tell you my setting. I like this because it leave my phone very functional, yet I get more than a day of battery life.

I also have the Sprint HotSpot activated (it works incredibly well, by the way), when I use that it does drain the battery.. fyi.
 
I have had my EVO for about a week now and am a long time iPhone user. I have had all the iPhones except for the iPhone 4. I have also evaluated the Nexus One, The Galaxy S Captivate, the Droid X and now I'm evaluating the EVO.

I'm not trying to be overly negative with this comparison, and some of what I consider negatives with the EVO are also present on the other Android phones I've tried out.

I don't consider the Android way of doing things different from the iPhone way of doing things a negative, just something I need to learn how to do. The same would hold true for someone coming from any other phone to Android for the first time.

The negatives I list here were copied from a earlier post because the are exactly the same things I dislike (I find them to be the same for all Android phones)

Negatives:
- Android apps are generally not nearly as polished, or full featured overall

- Games are not as good as iPhone's (e.g. Angry Birds, Bejeweled Blitz)

- Android OS -- even with Sense -- doesn't feel as polished as iPhone OS

- Lack of good backup/restore options without rooting (I don't really want to root my phone just for backup and I've already paid for tethering anyway)

- Nowhere near the number of accessories as the iPhone

- Battery life -- I should of said lack of battery life. Not very good for me so far

Positives:
- The screen -- Gotta love it, makes the iPhone look like a toy

- 4G Speed -- The EVO on 4G is amazing. I don't have 4G at home, but I do have it at work.

- Widgets -- I really like them

- Multi-tasking - The way it should work

Now if I could find headphones with inline music controls that allow me to change volume, switch tracks.

There are a few apps I have on my iPhone that I have not installed on the EVO just yet, mainly because they're expensive (Slingbox App) and I am not sure if I'll keep the EVO yet.

I did find the Angry Birds app (still in beta), and bought the regular version of Bejeweled. The Android version is not as smooth to play, there seems to be some lag when moving jewels.

Overall I'm very impressed with the EVO, more than I was with the other Android phones I've evaluated. That 4G speed can make the negatives seem not that important. Now I just need to get the headphone/earbud ith inline music controls thing figured out. :D
 
I just go rid of my iPhone 4 yesterday, smh, service was horrible! As far is my Evo 4G is concerned, (although is hasn't even been 24hrs yet) so far so good, and I just updated the FPS thing, even better!!!!

I like the fact that I can watch streaming videos online, something the iPhone still can't do.

...but the camera/video on the iPhone is better IMO.
