Root Former OG owners

I know this might not be the right place to post this, but I want to hear from the all the guides and former og owners who provided me with sooo much advice in the past. What's your experience with the evo lte so far? I been reading up on it (as well as the gnex) to see how the root is coming along. How's rom development so far? It seems full root (s off) is not available yet, right? Are there any kernals, a2sd, etc yet? I'm close to my upgrade and can't decide on gnex or evo lte. There's a lot of familiar people in both. Just wanted to see what your experience has been so far. Thanks.

I had my OGEvo for two years. After about six months of trying out ROMs I found OMJ's ROM and ran that the lest 18 months.

That said, I *love* my LTEvo. It leaves little to be desired and I am satisfied with the user experience thus far. I've done the soft root that has allowed me use of wifi tether, titanium backup to clear out unwanted apps, and do the email fix (suck it, Apple). At this point I have no desire to flash a new ROM.

I do keep up with the ROMs and there seems to be a robust group of developers (OMJ included).

Boils down to this: I would recommend the LTEvo as an upgrade from the OG Evo without any reservation.

Yeah, I would imagine many of the OG developers will start working on staff for the LTEvo soon. Now, with the soft root, you have stock recovery, right? And what is this email fix you speak of?

BTW, I can't believe you stayed on one rom for 18 months. I'm lucky to stay on one for a month!

Scroll down and read 'Ending Apple's Tyranny'. Basically Apple required HTC to disable a lot of the link functionality in the email app.

I updated the ROM reach time a new version came out, does that count? I'm a glutton for efficiency, do once I find done thing I like, that works well, I generally stick to it.

^^ This!

S-on/off has now become more of a cultural difference than a real one we care about.

And I did the engineering bootloader on the original Evo at the start, a mere 78 steps to root and install.

And dev support is shaping up more than nicely. ;) :)

I loved my OG Evo to death, but I'm so glad I updated. LTEvo is a true successor. My one and only complaint was the lack of a menu button, but that was easily fixed by flashing a zip found here. LTEvo is just so darn fast! It's so fast that without doing a speed test I really can't tell if mods help. It's like trying to tell the difference between super fast and super duper fast. I've hardly ever seen the word buffering or the loading icon.

And I'm so happy with the giant screen. After you get rid of the three dot on-screen menu button you have the full screen available and it's beautiful.

Now to your questions. ROM development has been great. LTEvo has been it for only a couple weeks and there are already enough great ROMs to keep you entertained for just as long. Plus all of the mods and tweaks, it's wonderful. As far as I can tell S-Off isn't even necessary any more. You can do everything with S-On after you unlock bootloader. Not many kernels yet, HTC hadn't released the source code for us yet. A2sd isn't necessary either anymore. With the ridiculous amount of internal storage you're all good. They give you more space than people ever partition for a2sd.

I've never used gnex so I can't really weigh in there. But I must say if you're thing about getting LTEvo, go get it right this second! Don't even look back. When I use my parents' OG Evos they feel small, thick and slow now. LTEvo is big, slim, fast and OG so beautiful. Okay, done ranting now. Go get LTEvo.

Personally, the El Tevo was a natural choice for me. I'm a big HTC fan, and I love the hboot, awesome idea for flashing stuff. ;)

I have a few buddies with the Gnex, its a really cool phone as well. Screen is really clear and I really really like the power button being on the side, right where your thumb rests. That was a great idea!

Ultimately I'm not a Samsung fan. I just can't get over that, no matter how good their phones get, or their update support increases. I love my El Tevo, I wouldn't go any other route. Plus the specs on this phone are better than the Gnex.

If you are looking for uber specs the SGS 3 is comming really soon. It's got more ram than the El T, something to think about. If you want super dev support, go El Tevo! ;)

Link to that menu zip in case I can't find it? thanks!

I just picked up a EVO LTE after having my OG Evo since launch. In it's bone stock form, it's really fast. I could go on and on about the stuff I like about it.

I did root it Sunday which is insanely easy. I flashed flipzmode's Fresh Rom right after, as with his old Evo roms, it includes most of the community fixes that are currently popular. I'm happy now, I can't wait to see what else the devs make for it.

Rom link to see all the changes.
