Interesting I have thought of rooting my phone from time to time I am thinking of it right now but I think it's a bit risky and I don't want to and don't trust programs on the web for doing so I don't download things I'm unsure of so I'm in a bit of a grey area when it comes to rooting my inspire

I can understand you being hesitant after reading the root guide in the Inspire 4G root section. It is kinda cryptic when IMO it shouldn't be. If you take your time and ask questions from those who are experienced with rooting your phone before the process you should have no problem rooting ;) some phones are easier to root than others but the process for your phone really isn't as crazy or difficult as I have seen some others ;) (that involve taking the back off and touching a exposed node to a male USB jacket with a paperclip ;))

whats the difference between trebuchet and Nova i have never used the other and don't plan on going to CM9 anytime soon i think they just took to long to get the ball rolling and they came into to a very crowed rom market for the nexus

I never noticed much of a difference. I think people choose trebuchet because it is the CM9 official launcher but I am used to nova and don't feel like setting up all my folders again ;)

Dang I am lucky for having an inspire then good phone IMO and root friendly well sometime I'll look into it I really want to expand my knowledge of android and the rooting process the better my knowledge the easier it is to help people and tinker with my phone

If you need any help I may be able to help you out. I believe the Inspire is pretty much the same as the MT4GS in terms of rooting. I haven't rooted mine although I have s off and a custom recovery and would just have to flash superuser.
Thanks man whenever I decide to root my phone I'll PM you now...Y U NO SAY THIS SOONER? lol

Lol. HTC phones are more fun to root than any other brand I have rooted/ flashed custom recoveries and roms on. Htc and their security settings and fasstboot...

Lol that is only because you can flash an AOSP rom and throw away Sense :p

I can't stand OEM UI's so I would say the same about pretty much all of them ;) I like my android vanilla :D

Yea well I like sense. maybe it's because all my phone's (the Optimus V, and Motorola Triumph) have been stock androidish from the box. All they had was VM's bloatware. Sense is nice, and in my opinion it doesn't slow anything down.

right on! I love sense

If you root I encourage you to try an AOSP rom. They are much smaller than Sense roms so without all the bloat the phone should be quite a bit faster. On my TB I would get better battery on AOSP compared to Sense, the phone ran smoother, and I think you can do more with it than you can with Sense.

Android Open Source Project. It's basically building roms directly from the base so no extra stuff added. Stock android.

There are plenty of extras that are included. Otherwise there would be no nexus roms ;)

Fine... Not as much as Cyanogen roms though. Aosp roms are kinda boring lol.

cool well I'll think about rooting though I will void my warrinty but I can always unroot just in case and there are so many features you can't get from launchers or simple apps so it kinda encourages me

Exactly and some manufacturers will still replace a defective unit if its been rooted. i know plenty of people have returned rooted phones to VM with no problems. But if you really wanted you could always unroot although if you take security off then it pretty much stuck off. Although there is a way to revert it on the MT4GS now idk if it would work on the inspire though.

I believe I read somewhere and tell me if I'm wrong but doesn't rooting reveal and exploit that requires you now to grant super permission to apps because it's a security exploit?

It's not so much a security exploit, but it does require certain apps to ask for permission (only one's that need root permission). All other apps run and install just like if you weren't rooted. Basically it allows you and apps to have access to the root of the phone, as in access to the flash memory of the phone.

Rooting grants superuser access. You can install an app (superuser, lol) that will let you pick which apps to all that access to.

yeah I saw something about after you root your phone you get a new app call super user thanks guy for answering my questions

Well most of the time you need superuser... although the MT is pretty much pre-rooted so you can gain root access and not use superuser (although superuser allows you to control which apps have access to the root of your phone)
