Fracked it up :-(

Ok so I rooted my captivate. I then used the titanium backup thing to get rid of all the at&t bloat ware. I didn't back them up either (I know I'm an idiot) well now I need somethings back, like voice recorder. But I can't seem to figure out how to do that. I can format the phone clear all the stuff but nothing brings it back. How do I restore this thing to factory defaults with everything installed????? I'm also getting tons of error messages now too...

Thanks

I broke mine this morning too, it gets stuck on the Galaxy S loading screen. Good thing I work for AT&T and can get it replaced for free. :)

Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset

That should help you, but it will remove and restore everything -- so backup anything new this time.

Yeah, I'm not understanding why a Factory Reset wouldn't install the default apps back... Unless you hardcore deleted them.

I think that is what I did. But their has to be a factory rom or something that can restore it. I mean they have to do this all the time at the factory..

You can also do a factory reset by turning the phone off, and when you power it on, hold down VOLUME DOWN+POWER.

At least that's what the manual says.

Then I'd say it's back to the store... I'd just leave out the whole "I rooted the device and was doing naughty stuff to it" bit.

Yea I messed mine up pretty bad too by uninstalling google talk. Factory data reset will NOT bring back protected apps that were deleted using root. All it does is delete personal settings and apps you installed from market..

Yeah that is what I was afraid of. Looks like its going back to the store tomorrow. I'm sure At&t can fix it. But I will return it....

I wouldn't be so quick to go deleting stuff until you're more familiar with the phone and know how to make backups of it so you can restore it.

^^^ Agreed. There is a reason they don't let you delete them normally...

I'm still trying to figure out how I can make a perfect backup copy of the entire state of the phone (apps, contacts, sms, filesystem, etc), before I make any other changes.
