Root Framaroot Roots Marquee!!!

OK. Thanks for the confirmation WetBiker. I just wanted to make sure CWM wasn't the problem people had with ROM Manager.

Nice that I didn't have to use the 23 step process outlined on the Root Guide! :) I downloaded 2 programs and with a total of somewhere around 8 or 9 taps, now have a rooted Marquee with CWM installed. And never once had to connect the phone to the computer. Or count to 10 before hitting a button. :)

I booted into recovery, created a backup, came back into stock ROM and texted my friend, just to confirm that my phone wasn't bricked. He was impressed, as he's been scared to root his phone (not a Marquee, BTW), so hopefully when he gets back from his vacation next week, he'll have his phone rooted too, and we can compare ROMs.

Anyway, Just a success story accomplished by using the framaroot and ROM Manager apps, rather than the 23 step process that seemed so painful to so many.

+1

Spread The Word!!! :D

I'm glad that you were able to get your Marquee rooted with CWM installed without any issues. Now the fun begins! Choose yourself one of the awesome custom ROMs we have available for the Marquee and unlock the full potential of your phone. You're going to think you've got a brand new phone in your hands!

Thanks for posting your progress. Hopefully others will be able to root as easily as you did. :D

Thank you. I just installed Megatron. And then tried restoring data from the CWM backup I had made. Is that a bad thing? It wouldn't boot. Just sat there with all the buttons flashing.

I went ahead and re flashed the ROM and it seems to be working now.

My question is: is there an easier way to get my programs back than downloading them all from the play store?

Not really. If you didn't make a backup before you started then you're pretty much stuck like Chuck. To backup apps before you make a change, Titanium Backup is good to use. Also, do not restore the app data. It can cause instability and force closes. :D

OK. I"m just going to do a full restore in recovery to get back to where I was before installing Megatron.

Then I'll get Titanium Backup and make a backup of everything, and try again.

From the little I was able to play with it, I like the ROM. I'll be able to tell better once I have my apps, and everything the way I like it, and see how it works compared to what I'm used to.

Megatron is a great ROM. I know that the Boost version is very stable and a great daily driver.

CTMOD is also a great ROM. Bloodawn is getting ready to release a newer version too.

You really can't go wrong with either one of them. Good luck and if you have any other questions, be sure to ask. There's no such thing as a stupid question when it comes down to learning about your phone. There are a lot of great people in here that will be more than willing to help you out if they can. :)

Glad you got a laugh. That was my intention. Can't wait until all of this "I've got secret" stuff is over, and I can try it out. :)

To be honest, I think Bloodawn has some more things he's adding to the ROM. All I got to see was a rough copy of it. I'm just like you guys, very anxious to see what it's like once it's released.
I will say this though, the rough copy I got ran great. I've been testing his ROMs for almost two years now and i still get excited every time he gets ready to release something new. He's came a long way since the early Prevail days. Hard to believe it's been that long ago since his 1st release of CTMOD. Cool huh? :D

Sheesh!!! I Started Rooting Like A Year And A Half Ago, Back In The Huawei Ascend Days. Times Flies!!! Now I Have My 2 Android Babies ;) (Admire And Marquee) And I Am Happy As Ever!!!. Me Roms Make Me Happy :D

Oh, And My Alternative Root Method Is Stickied To The Top If Any Other People Wanna Join The Rooted Side ;)

Yep, I'm the one who sent the request that it be made a sticky and be added to the root guide too. :D

OK, I think I've got this down, but I think I'll need a bigger SD card than the 2 GB I have now, If I'm going to be making CWM backups. I assume I need at least 1 for each ROM I install. For now I'll just move the stock one off to storage on the cloud before I install CTMod.

I got Megatron installed and with the help of Titanium Backup most of my programs and data are also installed. I noticed that I can't restore apps that were "system" apps on the stock ROM. is there a way around that? I just downloaded them again from the app store, so it's no big deal, just curious.

There are actually quite a few ways that it can be done but getting them from Play is probably the easiest.

wait framaroot rooted u guys? thats good and bad! get someone to patch the kernel since this is a huge security concern. any app can open up as root and mess with anything since anyone can call as a root user with no superuser prompt or even su binary.

I Will Contact Bloodawn And See If He Can Patch It

If it's rooting the phone, that's the stock kernel not bloods kernel that needs to be patched. If you take it out of the box and root with framaroot blood has nothing to do with that kernel. That's LG

Shouldn't be hard to fix. Just flash one of Bloodawn's Hyper kernels. Both Megatron and CTMOD have versions of the Hyper kernel already in them.

Shouldn't that take care of your worries?

aren't his kernels based on LG source code? if so he has to patch his kernel as well, if not, only stock users should worry!
