Finally took the plunge and installed a ROM. After all the reading I went with FrankenROM and I absolutely love it. Great ROM. Can't thank you enough Adryn. So far no issues. Haven't jumped in on a kernel yet.
Just be sure to make plenty of nandroid backups once you start trying out kernels and roms!I am using the one that came with this FrankenROM right now. It seems fine. I have had fewer problems than I did with the Hydra Kernel. Not as fast but more stable. My SD card crapped out again so I can't even run the Vanilla script so right now I am stuck with Sense but it seems fine and the battery life seems better even with Sense so groovy.Have you tried any of Adrynalyne's Kernels or any of the King ones? I find those to be much more reliable...
Just my opinion tho.

You can put your phone in silent mode (which it should be while you are in class) and it won't do it. Try it out in another environment to be sure but that is what I find if it is silent no Gene Wilder if it isn't Loud Gene Wilder.can anyone tell me how to remove the sound when booting? its awesome and all, but its annoying at times when i'm playing with my phone in class or in the library and i always have to worry if its gonna start yelling at me hah

Awesome choice of sound bit to go with for that by the way.

Is there a way to get the new Gmail app to install on this app?
Yes - I got it to work by uninstalling GMail via Titanium, rebooting the phone, then going back in to the market and downloading the new GMail app
Glad to hear that the speaker wasn't blown. An update of the speaker issues before. Used a powerful neodymium magnet and pulled some metal filings out of the speaker. The sound is MUCH better again.
The magnet in the speaker is pretty strong and catches a lot of stray metal it seems.
To remove the boot sound....
from your run box on PC,
cmd
cd\
cd sdk\tools
adb reboot recovery
phone reboots to clockwork recovery
on the phone:
mounts and storage, optical mouse click
mount /data optical mouse click
mount /system optical mouse click
back at your computer
type:
adb shell
when you get the #
cd /system/media
mv android_audio.mp3 android_audio.bak
type:
exit
unmount,
reboot
no sound on reboot...
and to get it back....
same steps as above, except its :
mv android_audio.bak android_audio.mp3
and voila... ITS ALIVE.... ALIVE!!!
From what I'm reading around the web ya better make a copy of the previous gmail.apk app cause you might want to revert after the new one. Some are saying it's slower causing funky things to happen.
Yeah mine will tell me I have new messages but when I go in to the app it doesn't list any new emails
Where's my Backup????
I did notice that after I re-installed 2.2.1 I got from xda that 2.3 showed up as an available update in the market....
