Help Free RAM on my Droid X with 2.3 and Task Killers with 2.3

Hi all,

Upgraded to 2.3 but noticed I only have ~50 MB of RAM free, normally. I can up this, but no matter what I do, programs pop on and this seems to slow the phone. Is 50 MB considered enough? What can I do to free up more RAM? It's infuriating that the phone has so little RAM.

Also, what can I do for a task killer? The 2.3 Android "manage apps" options is terrible. I have to click like 4 screens in order to kill something like Google Music -- and it pops back in a minute, anyway.

- Android is a multitasking OS...it is designed to keep things stored in memory...its not like Windows in this regard...

- Don't use a task killer...i have a couple programs installed like Watchdog, and Android System Info...but i only use them to keep an eye out for rogue apps that are sucking CPU usage...

if youre really worried about your free memory you can install autokiller and tweak the settings that Android uses to kill apps

Is it possible to tweak the Android settings for killing apps? For example, Google Music uses a ton of RAM but I cannot get Android to kill the program when I am done!

1. you're too focused on the idea of free memory...i PROMISE you that Android is not like Windows...Android is DESIGNED to keep apps in memory for speed...it kills apps when its needed...

2. autokiller won't let you set parameters for specific apps like that...but there may be an app out there that does...

3. Android is not killing it because the system is not calling for it to be killed...
 
There's no advantage to having lots of free ram.

Free ram is unused ram. If you free up too much ram you slow your DX.
