I got to see the Mothers and Steely Dan in concert in 72. They performed at a small venue in Wichita Ks. The curtains opened on the band sitting behind lighted music stands like you see the big bands of the 40's used. Zappa walked out dressed in long tails and tie and rapped his baton on his music stand.... then all hell broke lose.
