Root Freedom kernel scaling mode differences?

Lurker
Would anyone be able to tell me the difference between all the different scaling modes in SetCPU, when i have the Freedom kernel flashed on my phone?

smartass performance powersave userspace ondemand interactiveX

thanks.

To keep it short, on the freedom kernel, I personally think InteractiveX is the best. It's going to make your phone snappy, and it also has a built in screen-off profile, so it will automatically clock your phone down to the minimum when your screen is off. So you don't need to set up a separate profile for that. Smartass is a little more toned down than InteractiveX, but it works the same way. It just won't be so quick to clock your CPU speed up. Those are about the only two governors I ever use, regardless of kernel.

It has one included, but I have a screen off profile set at 422 because I have much higher MHz without it. I'm not sure what the built in one is set at or whether it is triggered by having the screen off or just reduced activity but I use a screen off profile regaurdless

The smartass gov will utilize the default profile when the screen is physically off and it will dial the processor speed down to whatever your default min value is. So if you have the SA governor selected with 256 MHz as your min and 998 MHz as your max, it will always hold the speed to 256 MHz as long as the screen is not turned on. If you try to set up a separate screen off profile for a frequency that is different than the default minimum, I'm not sure how it would be handled. I guess either the profile you selected would override it, or the SA governor could completely override the profile you have set up.

I know thats the way it should be, but I've posted screenies before of my time spent in each state with a screen off profile and without one and I have significantly more time at my max without it than I do when I have my screen off profile (hardly any time at max)

From a previous thread with a screen off profile:
Example:

My CPU levels by % (taken yesterday)

Taken today without a screen off profile:

Roughly same amount of total time on each.
So I'll keep my screen off profile.
