Root Freeze messages app?

If I have handcent running, should I use Titanium backup to freeze Messages? Or, does handcent need something that Messages is providing?

Handcent relies on the stock messaging system so you can't freeze it but you can turn notifications for stock messaging off so you don't get double notifications
