Help Freezing/rebooting problems

I removed the card without unmounting and a little while later when I unlocked the phone it said SD card has been removed, no SD card, SD card has been installed and preparing SD card. I never had to actually remove the card again and put it back in nor did I have to reboot. Hasn't happened again and i hope it doesn't! ;)
Yes that happens if you don't unmount it.

If you unmount it and then remove the SD card, there are no issues. I have removed it several times since with proper unmounting and the phone works fine.

Ugh... I got a entirely new phone from Best Buy last Sunday. The first thing I did when I got home was format the card and I've been using that all week... Almost 7 days after using the phone with no problems I got the SD unmounting error!

I noticed that this happened when I turned the phone on from standby mode. It did take 3 presses of the power button to get it to come on, and this was the first time I've seen the battery indicator low enough to show the battery status color as yellow.

I had to pull the cart and reinsert it in order for it to be recognized again.

Not sure whether this some sort of fluke... but if this continues to happen on weekly basis I will likely be returning this phone before the 30 days are up.

ARGH... today when I pressed the power button the card unmounted and then remounted automatically. Very annoying that this issue persists...

I'm having the same problem with the Optimus S as well, freezing, rebooting, having to pull the battery out, SD card issues, etc.

Phone #1 was purchased 11/18 online.
Phone #2 (replacement) was purchased 11/22 online.

One thing to note is that phone #1 had a Samsung microSD memory card, phone #2 has a different one (unbranded) SD-C02G TAIWAN.
(They both have the same LG-branded SD card adapter)

Will let you know how phone #2 with the non-Samsung microSD card does.

I found an old 512MB LG card and formatted that tonight on the PC FAT32. I'm using that now so I'll see how this one goes over the next week or so.

We got 3 Optimus S phones this weekend at Radio Shack. On mine, I experienced 2 reboots different times throughout the day when pressing the power button while the phone was in standby mode.

I purchased my Optimus S at my local Sprint store 11/13, the day before it was "officially" released. I initially had the same issues...lock up and had to pull battery to restart. I also kept losing the apps installed to my sd card. There are some other threads that describe the same SD card issue....I think the micro cards that came with the phones are bad.

I placed the micro card in the SD adapter and copied the files to my PC. I then formatted a new micro card (this one happed to be 16G) and copied the files to it and installed it in my phone. My phone has worked perfectly since.

P.S. Since this is my first android phone, I've overloaded it with all sorts of apps tyring them out. I've our the free "App to SD" app helpful in moving apps to the SD card, and I've also found that the Andoid 2.2 system does a better job of managing memory than trying to do it with the "Advanced App Killer" app. Very happy camper with my Otpimus S thus far.....fantastic phone.

Update after 1 week. No issues so far with phone #2 (replacement) that had a different memory card from the first.

We purchased 3 S's from a Sprint Co. store Sat., 11/27, for basically $0.00(after the rebates arrive and no activation fees (thank you, Mr Manager!!!)).
The only problem with any of the 3 was my wife's needed a new battery that same day. There has been no freezing, reboots...nothing. We're enjoying the great call quality while getting acquainted with the "smart" aspect of the phones(we have a lot to learn!).
So far, so good!!!

I had my phone for less than a week, and yesterday experienced a lock up when I tried to make a call, it was not completely locked but I had to turn it off and back on to be able to make the call, also today it would not connect to the network with the browser, even though I had the 3g notification, it would receive mails though. After I turned off and on I was able to go online. I hope this is an isolated incident since I really like this phone overall.

I'm starting to have freezing/rebooting-all-on-its-own issues as well. I've had the phone for 2 weeks as of today and the first freeze was probably 4 or 5 days into ownership (had to remove battery to get phone working again). Second freeze was a few days later. Third freeze was about 2-3 days ago, and then today I've had a number of freezes (3 or so in the last 12 hours) and one instance where the phone tried to reboot itself but got stuck during the reboot at the ANDROID screen and just stayed there (had to remove the battery to get it to reboot successfully), and one more instance where it did reboot itself successfully.

I can't find any commonality between the freezes and reboots to indicate what might be causing this. I can say that I have NOT had any messages indicating any problem with the SD card. None.

I have only a couple popular Apps from the Market installed - Pandora, Skyfire, Dolphin Mini Browser (which has since been removed and I still have had a freeze/reboot occur), google sky maps, weather channel app, Flixter, and Barcode Scanner. My phone is stock (not rooted or tampered with in any way).

Are you also running the latest firmware? If yes, I would try hard reset, which would wipe it clean and start over. After that is to take it in to service.

i do have the latest firmware (just checked that last night). no freezes yet today but i'll continue using it more than I normally would just to stress test it.

I heard that the stock SD card can cause issues. I'm on my second optimus device after being plagued by these problems. I am picking up a new class 4 SD card and will let you all know how it works out.

**update**

So far it appears that the class 4 sd card is the answer. Just make sure you format it (not quick format) on your computer before putting it in your device.

I got my LG a few days ago and it started freezing and rebooting so I searched and found this thread. It did not do it at first and I had switched to Live Wallpaper so I changed that and I'll see what happens.
