Fresh 2.3.3 Released

To be honest, I don't see any improvement coming from 2.1.1. In fact, it has more issues than 2.1.1 did. Scrolling through the screens seems slower than and not as smooth as on 2.1.1. My weather widget is not updating, just says "current location". I can't turn off the haptic feedback; I unchecked it in the settings yet it keeps doing it on all keyboards. Finally, I can't figure out how to turn off sound notifications for emails, and it quite annoying to hear the "blip" every 30 seconds as new emails keep rolling in. There was a way to do it in 2.1.1, but I can't find it anymore in 2.3.3. That's just what I've found after playing with 2.3.3 for about an hour, and I'm already thinking about going back to 2.1.1.

did you wipe data and davlik before flashing 2.3.3?

Have you rebooted at least 2 times? Flipz actually says somewhere in his instructions that it might take a little while to get running faster.

Email noticfications can be set individually for each email acct you have set up. open that email acct, then, menu, settings, notification settings.

I rebooted once after flashing, and one more time after uninstalling some of the stuff the new ROM came with (Setup wizard, Flicker, Facebook, etc.). I'll try rebooting again later on today and give it a day or two before going back to 2.1.1.

Aha! Thanks for the reminder. I know it took me some time to figure it out last time, and I was scratching my head trying to figure out how I did it. :) That's why I don't like flashing new ROMs - it messes everything up and I have to remember every little change I had to make for my phone to behave exactly the way I want it to.

Hmmm... I had a weird experience so far... I was up and working fine until I set up my exchange account. After I set it up the phone rebooted and got stuck in a boot loop. Tried pulling the battery with the same result. Had to nandroid back... can anyone confirm? I did set my gmail account up first. Wiped factory/ and cache fyi.

**UPDATE**

If you setup an exchange account and got the boot loop... Rewipe and download lockpicker app from the market. The only work around so far I guess. Thanks for the info "Random."

This was also an issue with mine. My company has exchange where you have to have security lock screen enabled. Lockpicker solved this but also solved the boot loop. Steps I took:

1. Prior to setting up exchange, installed Lockpicker.
2. Setup exchange.
3. Disabled lockpicker (needed to complete adding of the exchange account)
4. Once it got added, I reenabled the lockpicker
5. success...no more reboots.

I think the issue actually lies in the lockscreen itself. It uses a special lockscreen when you have this security enabled. Lockpicker disables this screen. I noticed when I got stuck into the boot loop, it was after my phone timed out and turned off the screen. When I hit the RED end call button, it then jumped into the boot loop. This tells me that the lockscreen itself is what is not working.

just remember, any apps you add to /data/ get zipaligned on a reboot, that can make the phone seem slow at first. mine is faster today than yesterday (when I was adding apps)

Just to be sure, its not plugged into the wall charger or the computer, right?

I'm getting hammered with fc's

htc sense (process com.htc.launcher)

over & over

rebooting, and using launcher pro to see what happens

eta: rebooted using launcher pro, and got htc media fc's

re wiping, then reflashing

got it up & running now

thought this came with the vanilla lock screen though?

not that I care, I just want to make sure everything is working right

eta: damn, I'm slow today, got it all figured out

just rewiped all and reflashed again
when it comes back up Ill see if I got mine
its taking awhile to boot this time
but i wiped everything this time

Im having the no sound problem with the new update. Does anyone have a fix? It works for two calls then no sound.

will do. gotta figure out how to get titanium backup working because i'm not about to spend 2 hours installing and customizing apps if i stick with 2.2.3 :)

ok.. an update on battery usage.. unplugged from charger at 7:30am.. sent several texts.. downloaded a couple apps.. checked email every hour (ok..I was just waking the phone because I like to play with it).. made/received 4 calls lasting an average of 10 minutes each.... checked facebook a few times.. in other words.. moderate usage..
at 11pm I still had 33% battery left.. not bad after 15.5 hours.. I'll keep checking usage over the next few days as the ROM settles into place (as I get it all setup like I want and stop playing with it all day)..

i'm not quite as charged as you are regarding battery..but i am running OCd kernal at 710 and have the same, if not better battery life...not to mention the phone is way snappier. i'd suggest doing this if you have already flashed 2.3etc

if you had a legal version of Swype, simply look in your downloads folder on your SD card for the Swype installer.. click it to install then install swype like normal. if you didn't have a legal version, then that won't help you at all :D

btw... shapewritter appears to still be in the market..

you are a wonderful human being...

I do plan on giving the OC'd kernel a run on this ROM. I wasn't thrilled with it on 2.1.2 though. But since I'm on call this week for work I'll wait until next week just to make sure I don't screw something up and miss a call in the middle of the night

man..no apps appearing with titanium backup even with new busybox installed. ??

I'm flashing now...

Scratch that, I'm about to restore a nandroid because i forgot that i was going to screen cap each one of my home screens so that I can put everything back in exactly the same order I had it in. Damn it.

****NEVERMIND****
Hmm... I was going to do the titanium backup to see if that would set everything back the way i had it, but every time i click Market it brings up the android market agreement and automatically closes, what's up with that?*****
