Being updated as I play..

Been lurking a while.. DFW, TX. Got my OTA this morning. Came from 1.5. Been playing all day. No pinch-to-zoom on maps.

-Can't find voice text input anywhere, but can do a Google search w/ your voice via new app.
-No Friendstream, Google Goggles, Gallery, Local Weather/News App.

Cools
-Camera is different, better layout. Can take pics w/ screen press still.
-Double tap home for view of all screens.
-Maps (with cool google Lab features) and navigator.
-Photos app seems different - can zoom pics.
-Improved search button can search whole phone, not just Google.
-Weather animation after unlock.
-Can use wallpapers on lock screen to match your home screen.
-Other new apps - desk clock, search people, voice search, working YouTube!
-If listening to music through your aux input in your car and google navigating, the music turns off as it gives you instructions then comes back on.
-When you plug into computer, lets you charge, mount, or sync with a pop-up menu

My favorite so far.. I can send pictures messages (mms) to anyone (iphone, dumb phone, etc.). Never worked before.

Feel free to ask any ?'s. Download size was ~77mb. Total update time was maybe 15 mins. I'm happy!

FYI:
-Your scene will be deleted but downloaded apps will not.
-You will lose Google contacts but not contacts stored in phone - resync brought everyone back. -Had to reset text/email notification settings.
-Swype works.
 
Glad to hear u got it in Dallas. I live in College Station so hopefully ill get it in the morning. Have u experienced any bugs or problems with it so far?

No bugs so far. Comparable reception.

I use Swype and I haven't noticed any huge difference. Wasn't that laggy to begin with. But Dialer is very responsive. Menu navigation and overall speed has picked up.
 
I wonder if the YouTube issue was a because of "unsupported media format." If the YouTube app works, maybe that means the phone will FINALLY playback the more popular extensions. I couldn't care less about the YouTube app. A shortcut to YouTube Mobile works just as well. But I would like to be able to view any clip someone mails me.
 
I understand the frustration of some for not having pinch to zoom in Google Maps... but let me speculate. Verizon states/stated that it would be a feature and we know it is possible with the phone, but maybe it isn't Verizon's issue. Wouldn't that be Google's fault? Does it work with other phones? I admit it would be very odd if it worked with the Droid and Incredible but not with use once we have 2.1.

There was an update which added pinch to zoom to maps. Maybe those people haven't updated it?
 
The pdf said that one new feature was pinch to zoom in gallery, but my 1.5 can already do that when in the photo gallery. I click on a picture and can zoom in and out easily. Is that not what they are talking about?

That feature in Google maps is one of the anticipated improvements in the OTA.

Im in Dallas and have nada so far so dont necessarily expect it. Not trying to be a party pooper, just realistic.

I am on 2.1 v3 leak and Google Goggles was just updated last week to read/interpret foreign language text. This feature is the BOMB! It is in the marketplace and has been working great for me. How could it possibly not be eliminated with the OTA update?

I'm guessing txeris was mistaken

No, pinch-and-zoom is sorta like this: Put your index and middle fingertips on the screen, almost touching. Now spread your fingers apart, keeping them touching the screen. The image should get bigger or zoom.

I'm on 1.5 and my photo gallery also has pinch-and-zoom (using two fingers), exactly as you described.

I, too, was questioning why VZW was advertising this as an "upgrade"...
