Root Fresh EVO 0.2 ROM Available

My 4G was slow (speedtest.net went from ~2.4 Mbps dl before to 1.3 after) so I ran the fresh 4g fix, and speeds are about 1.0-1.1 Mbps.... fail. Ping is much higher too (377 compared to 108 before).

Note: I ran the radio update when I installed the Fresh ROM.

Edit: Also, my sound doesn't work anymore. I don't get the "Freshhhhh" on startup, nor do apps or muic players make sound. Mic and earpiece don't work, and neither does the headphone jack.

Had that same problem and SD card said there was nothing on it. I read that the SD card is a problem with the Evo but still went back to stock which is a simple process. Think I will wait for Froyo maybe.

Flashed Fresh 0.2 and so far it's great. I might have found one issue though. The dictate speech option on my keyboard does not function. Does anyone else have this issue or is it an isolated thing I should look into?

I believe the voice-to-text function has been disabled with the Fresh ROM.

Quite... people really should read the description of the ROM before they go installing it...

^^^ good call, however some of us might not have realized from his directions/information that "voice search" and voice-to-text were the same thing.

Runs smoother and faster. LinPack would give me 5.8-6.2 MFLOPS before, now it's usually 6.8-7.0. I'm not exaggerating.

I'm getting 6.9 on my stock phone, I'm totally new to Android so I doubt I did anything really impressive to tweak the phone basically just turned off a few things I found out on this forum.

Yes, I didn't realize voicesearch was the speech to text application. I actually liked that application a lot. And....... Mrk.......... if your gonna flame someone, at least spell right.

hey guys I have been working on rooting my phone for the first time for hours today. I successfully rooted it from the SD card then ran the evo recovery image. My main question is how can I tell im rooted? the rooted ROM erased all my previous data so I am pretty much back to square one. But I can't tell for the life of me if I am actually rooted. I have no Super User deal in my apps.

Also, I was under the impression to do a full backup (nandroid?) of my phone before i rooted it I had to root it. Like in order to do a full image backup the device had to be rooted in the first place...which erased everything anyways when i rooted it. I don't really care about what I lost cause it's not like I can use any of it on a 4 hour charge anyway...

Can anyone lead me in the right direction? As far as I know as of this moment, my phone is rooted, and has the custom recovery module.

Also I tried to install Clockwork Mod Manager to do a backup but that app doesn't seem to respond in any way when i try to back up to SD card.
Thanks for any input :D

Nevermind got everything working in order. Awesome!

Lol, mrk, don't start nerd raging. Quite?? and the smug comment, but whatever:p

To get back to a constructive thread...........

If anyone wants the speech to text app that was removed in this rom it is very easy to get back as well as any others you might want back. The speech to text app is called "Voicesearch."

1. Enter Settings>Applications and check unknown sources to allow installation of non-market apps
2. Open up ES File Manager on your phone
3. Enter fresh-removed-apks file
4. Pick your app and click on it
5. Install it and your done

takes 3 minutes tops. have fun.

See post 16. HTC apps need to be moved to the system folder then installed. Non HTC apps can be installed from the folder they are in.

I read that post but not quite sure how to find the sdk/tools folder... Is this done when the phone is still in recovery mode with the red exclamation mark displayed?

You know that that's a word, right? And you understand that it is absolutely acceptable and understandable to use it in the sense that I did, do you?

Further, I'm not the one who felt the need to accuse someone else of flaming because they had the audacity to tell people that they should perhaps read the release notes before installing. Nor would I call my having done that smug--but, then again, we've seen that you have trouble differentiating between those things which are and those things which are not words.

mrk, I think our point was that in his instructions it didnt mention "voice to text", only "voice search". Im sure you can see how that might have confused a few of us n00bs since there are actually two stock apps with those names. You could have simply stated that rather than make the comment you made. regardless, move on.

and Hack a lak, thanks for the run down on how to get voice to text back.

bug or SD Card issue?? Note I did not have the problem before installing this ROM.

I noticed today when I use ES File Explorer and Gallery, I cant see pictures loaded on my SD Card. In ES File Explorer, sometimes it sees the directories but thinks they are empty, sometimes it doesnt even see the directories. In the Gallery, and it showed only 1 picture (in thumbnail icon view) and the rest were just a small icon with an exclamation point. So I pulled the SD Card, verified pictures were good on my laptop, copied the picture files again to the SD Card from my PC using the SD slot, reinstalled the card, and rebooted the phone.

Initially when going back into Gallery, all pics are there and I can open and browse them. So I tried ES File Explorer again, and it sees the directory, but says its empty. So I went out and tried another directory, and now it says it doesnt see any directories. If I go back into Gallery, it shows little icons with exclamation again.

During that troubleshooting, my screen went to sleep while on the Gallery screen. When I woke up the screen again, the pics were back up in the Gallery, but still not seeing any data on the SD Card in ES File Explorer. I tried to replicate that again by turning off the screen, but this time the pics still werent showing in the Gallery.

Are there any services that would control this sort of thing? Thoughts?

So I rooted and installed this ROM for the first time. Other than some stuff removed and added I can't tell a benefit except the landscape keyboard is ginormous without the arrow keys..which is kind of awesome. Doesn't seem any faster or anything though. Fun to learn how to do this though.

Anyone having problems with wireless internet working in this ROM? (Fresh) I connect fine, but once connected, I'm unable to load webpages/keep apps running...etc. As soon as I toggle wireless off and my 3G connection takes over, I get connection back. Tried rebooting...Any one else having these problems? Suggestions?

Thanks!

This Rom improved my battery a lot. Not sure what was running so diligently in the background on my stock Rom, but now my phone actually sleeps and isn't draining ridiculous amounts of battery. So for that fact alone this Rom is a keeper in my book, and I am looking forward to keeping it on through the updates it gets. Great work on Fresh 0.2!

I've noticed an improvement in battery too. This is a nice rom. I also like that you can replace the fresh removed apps like voice to text with ease.
