From the Nexus 4 to the Droid 3...

Okay I installed safestrap but it doesn't prompt me to run it and when it goes into safestrap it waits on a black screen for awhile and then says Sorry! The application Safestrap (process.com.hashcode.droid3safestrap)has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. I've tried it a few times. What could be the problem?

don't think it installed correctly
which file did you download?
did you verify root with root basic

I looked away for a few seconds, is it possible it did it then? When I looked back down, because it seemed to be taking awhile, it was a black screen and I got nervous, but it booted as normal after a few seconds of that. Do I need to repeat the process to make sure recovery has been installed properly or...?
just re boot phone again

NO. But I thought you could not possibly have superuser/SU access or be able to download Titanium backup without being rooted. I have both of these.

Ohhh okay. That screen appeared but it said Safestrap was disabled... Why is that? Also can someone tell me why my battery has drained instantly? It's only at 5% after downloading SS, installing recovery and rebooting.

I hope my battery isn't permanently damaged and that it will be able to charge back up. It was only like 30-40% down. Then I installed everything and turned it off and it showed only 30% battery left. I restarted the phone and it showed only 5% battery. I hope this is normal.

you shouldn't have gotten errors at the beginning, think your file was corrupt or you downloaded wrong safestrap.

There isn't an error message. It is the exact same screen that you have up. Just instead of enabled, it says disabled.

That's normal to say Safestrap is disabled (in red letters) - you are still set to run the stock phone. It won't say "Enabled" (in green letters) until you create a ROM slot, make it active, flash a ROM and reboot.

I don't know about the battery, but don't do anything else until you have fully charged the phone. Until then, if you want to try the ROM minimoto, you can download it from here: xda-developers - View Single Post - [ROM - Stock-based] Minimoto v1.7 XT862/XT860- Less is more.

I guess I should have asked, but I assume that you have a Verizon Droid 3? If so, you want the XT862 version of the ROM, which is a link at the bottom of that post.

Anyway, download that file, to a computer. It's a zip file. Do not unzip it - when the phone is charged, you will copy it to internal storage or the SD card.

The next time that you power up the phone, go into settings->storage. How much available space is left on "Internal storage"? And do you have an SD card?

this is an error messege

Also, sorry that I did not mention this before, but one rule of rooting the phone is that you always, always work with a battery that is fairly fully charged, and it's probably a good idea to plug it into a wall charger while you are working. It's ok to plug into a PC to copy files over, etc., but then I always like to plug it back in.

Thanks a lot doogald. That's what I needed to know. So until I install a rom it won't show enabled in green.
themib I fixed that a long time ago. I'm not having any problems with safestrap. The only thing I was trying to figure out, other than what to do next, was why it said disabled upon booting and why my battery had drained.

Okay, I will check out the page for minimoto instructions, but may I ask if anyone knows about Maverick 4.5? Is it any good or will it disable the camera? And steeldroid 5.6, does it "run" better than minimoto? My main things are having a very smooth running system, no battery issues, and for the camera to at least work. Is Minimoto still the way to go?

Btw the battery seems to be charging normally. I've never ran it down that low, so it seems a bit slow, but it is climbing so I don't think there are any problems there, but I will be wanting to install a rom (if time permits) as soon as it's back fully charged.

Let me know when you can how much storage you have available. Also, again, copy the minimoto_v1.7.zip to your phone - either internal storage or SD card, and it can be in a folder, if you wish - and I'll walk you through the rest:

- Starting Safestrap recovery on boot
- Backing up the stock system, just in case
- Creating a ROM slot and activating it
- Flashing a ROM, like Minimoto
- rebooting

Once you do it, it'll be old hat...

I have run Maverick. It runs fine - the camera works just fine. I seem to recall others saying that it has a battery drain issue, and that Maverick 4.0 is better, but I'm not sure that I notice that.

My issue with Maverick was one thing: it changes the default typeface to one that becomes impossible to determine normal text from bold text. It looks pretty, but Gmail as an app shows unread mail as bold, and with Maverick, it was nearly impossible to tell unread vs. read mail in Gmail. It drove me crazy.

I still suggest Minimoto. It's fast, it tends to drain battery just a little bit slower than other ROMs, and the camera, etc. are fine.

But, that's the great thing about ROMs - you can try them all out, and choose to live with the one that you like.

And a great thing about Safestrap - you can set up multiple ROM slots (basically, up to 4) and switch between them in a manner if minutes. So, if there is something that you like about Steel Droid 5.6 but need a camera for a specific purpose, you can quickly switch to another ROM slot, or even to stock, and then come back to Steel Droid just as quickly, and the ROM will be just as you left it.

Hmmm. That sounds pretty cool. I mean about the ability to switch the roms I mean. I may not do it often as I like to get something, tweak it to my specific needs, and just stick with what works to fit most of what I do on daily bases. The older I get, the less tinkering I do it seems. Even all the stuff I did with playing with launchers before, I don't really like to do. After using a Windows phone for a while, I've gotten used to fluidity and any bit of lag really gets to me as well tbh. I'm gonna go for minimoto first and see how that works. Hopefully it suits well. I also need to change these horrible looking icons as well. Lol. Btw, once I flash a rom, will it affect my being on PagePlus (the Droid 3 that I have is Verizon btw)?
Juggling a few things right now, but I'll let you know about the available storage soon.

That I am not sure of. I've never used PagePlus, but, what I've read about VZW phones on PP, I believe it should be fine, and, if not, I think anything you did to get the stock phone to work on PP should work on Minimoto. If it doesn't, you are just about a minute away from being back on stock again.

I have a sd card (Is this a requirement when rooting and romming?) and I have 11.35 gb of internal available space .

Okay I have the minimoto zip in my phone's internal. Verified with the files app. I read something about making a rom slot in SS? I'm not sure how to do this so...
