Froyo 2.2 to bring 450% performance increase?

Fabolous

Hey guys, I ran into this article on Engadget last night. While it's mainly a demo of Flash 10.1 on the Nexus one, the guy demoing apparently has Android 2.2 on his N1.

In addition to a new Launcher (with dockable icons), apparently Turbo Davlik/JIT is running well, with 450% increase in Linpack scores (that's up to 37MFLOPS!!! from the stock 7)

That means our rooted, overclocked Droids will be pushing 40++

This is very, very exciting.

The article here:

Android 2.2 'Froyo' and Flash run like butter on Nexus One (update) -- Engadget

And the video here:

Awesome, fantastic, super news!

And the video just has me salivating for Flash. It also shows one of the REAL reasons why Apple doesn't want flash on their mobile devices: folks can circumvent the app store and play free Flash games through the browser, which obviously means decreased app revenue.

oh snap!

Can't speak for when Motorola and Verizon will have the OTA available, but I'm sure rooted users will have it a few days after it is released on AOSP.

is this only rooted related as you say "That means our rooted, overclocked Droids will be pushing 40++" or are you saying the benefits are great, but even better for rooted over-clocked users?

It still will result in a huge performance increase for stock users. Not sure what stock mflops are but they will go up a lot with jit

Yes.you.can! :)

A 450% increase would be amazing, but I highly doubt it is accurate. None the less, I shall be waiting on pins and needles for the release.

Is the flash that we will be receiving different than that of the flash that the Incredible has with sense UI or does the incredible already have all of these features?

And how can they increase performance by 450% just by an update?

The incredible has flash lite. It is vastly different from the flash 10.1 that is coming out.

A 450% performance increase is possible because the majority of Android apps are built to run on a davlik java virtual machine, which has advantages, but also limits the capabilities of the apps. 3D games such as ExZeus are an exemption.

The new virtual machine is much more efficient, makes use of just in time compilation, etc, and allows for certain apps (such as the Linpack benchmark) see these major performance increases.

450%? I'll believe it when I see it. No rush to get, don't need to get so worked up about it a. And I guess I'm wondering, will I even get it?
